Introduction In 1998 I got an unknown condition that attacked my feet and hands, but halfway through 1999 things took a turn for the worse when I was rushed to hospital with Vasculitus in my feet. This is a condition when the blood vessels start leaking blood. I was then given an incorrect diagnsosis, 8 aspirins a day for an indefinite period and was basically abandoned to all intents and purposes by the consultant who refused to admit her ignorance.I was then completely bedridden for 6 months but the condition wasn't resting however, it started spreading all over my body affecting me in all sorts of different ways The aspirins controlled the condition enough for me to walk so I went to see a homeopath that was recommended to me. His methods were unlike ordinary homeopaths, in that he had a machine which he connected to my feet and the noises the machine made dictated the diagnosis I would get. However, because my feet where in such a mess the machine didn't work properly, so he proceeded to do my diagnosis by means of a pendulum, which is a Dowsing tool.Because of my paranormal interests this immediately got my attention. He confirmed (without him knowing my own self diagnosis) that my condition was fungal in origin. That impressed me and I was told I could do this myself. So as soon as I got home I commenced dowsing and there began the most amazing period of my life in which dowsing not only cured me but helped eradicate post operative gall bladder pain in my wife and controlled my daughter's ezcema to the point it was not a problem any more. I would just like to make one point about the validity of dowsing. The homeopath I went to see told me he was a dowser He was a dowser who was hiding behind a technological disguise, because 20th century people are guided by a scientific rationale which states that being treated successfully by dowsing (a totally paranormal thing) was impossible. This doctor doesn't advertise and successfully runs a practise based on word of mouth ,I personally can think of no greater recommendation can you?. Concerning myself, very shortly after I started dowsing I abandoned the dowser's course of treatment and embarked on an intensive bout of self dowsed remedies that to me were totally amazing. I also had some other paranormal experiences I will never forget.

The problems and pitfalls of dowsing I believe anybody can dowse, it just takes some personal circumstances to believe in it. For me it was lack of belief in the social.and orthodox structures that hold society together, and the motivation of a having a disabling illness. But in my own limited experience I have learned that you have to be very careful in your questioning because it will mislead you .The grammar of your questions, the subject of your questions, your motivations for asking certain questions all effect the quality of results you get.If I ask a straight forward question on health, say ''What medicine does this person need?'. 'Well that's fine. But if I were then to ask 'How long will it be before this person will get better with this medicine?' I'm beginning to wander into the realms of asking about the future. This is such a fine borderline that in my experience after being mislead many times, is to leave this area alone. The thing is I'm very inexperienced and find I'm learning all the time about the subtlies of this esoteric skill, that an experienced dowser might look at my fumbling around with dismay. Though my experience with one such experienced dowser has shown me dowsing doesn't make you any less a fallible person. The rules of this game are never explained, though there undoubtably are rules and they seem profoundly moral. To me the Dowser is just a conduit for a paranormal force but the individual's personality is constantly involved the process and is effecting the results. So I believe that to become a good dowser will involve a lot of self anaylsis or an ablility to be objective and as logical as you can possibly be. Also the more knowledge you possess, the more you can frame new questions, which without it you could not have thought about before That bit about knowledge is really important, because you have to do the running in dowsing, it doesn't give you clues. Most of the time it mechanically answers yes or no, and as I said before if you have no knowledge of a particular area of a subject you won't even realise there is a question to be asked. For instance when I first started asking question like ''Can I take any medicine for this complaint?'; I was given a medicine, but was not told that and didn't think to ask at first that I could take any more medicine for the same complaint and that I could plan timetable for a series of medicines. This just came out of trial and error. There are places where you can be taught how to dowse, but I have always gone my own way and that's the way I prefer it,and so you must realise my experiences are personal, however I do believe they hold a kernel of truth in them. And it's up to you to what you make of it, I just felt that it would be irresponsible of me not to mention the pitfalls that I have come across.

How I Dowse for health Because I didn't want to make it obvious to my daughter and people in general that I was dowsing I used my keys as my preferred pendulum. Although if I was desperate anything would do,basically anything that dangles.... INSERT JOKE HERE. When I dowse a swing from side to side means Yes. No swing means No. A circular swing means i'm exactly right. This last one I discovered later on, but for the majority of the time I just use yes and no.It seems I can only dowse for health reasons and my line of questioning goes like this. 'Is there any medicine I can take for this problem?' If Yes.. 'Is this medicine in the house?' I may have to buy some new stuff if it's not.And when I finally get the medicine,I ask lots of questions like 'How much of it?' 'When can I take it?' 'How do I take it?' etc. The information you get is as good as the questions you ask,so it's basically trial and error and believe me I'm stil making many errors! I would not describe myself as a methodical person. In fact the opposite is true I'm an undisciplined, chaotic shambles of a person, but who somehow seems to muddle through. Homeopathic medicines The majority of medicines I self prescribe are homeopathic. That is they work by helping the body to help itself. Although sometimes it will use traditional medicine, given the choice between a homeopathic medicine and a drug the pendulum will choose the homeopathic remedy.I came to homeopathy before dowsing when I was searching for a cure and from a personal perspective dowsing has confirmed to me the effectiveness of homeopathy and the philosophy behind My story is continued on the next page
