Paul & I ventured a little further up the coast of Spain to the beautiful old town of Sitges.
This Spanish resort is only 1hr drive from Barcelona & is extremely popular with Gay people as well as families of all ages.
Due to it's charming old town style, excellently positioned Hotels, narrow winding alleys, shops, bars, restaurants & clubs it's easy to see why holiday makers return to this part of Spain year after year.
We were lucky enough to arrive on a hot, sunny Monday morning to find that most of the Hotels had just said "adios" to their weekend guests. The choice of Hotels was decided very quickly by the fact that there was a free parking space on the main beach road right outside a pleasant looking 3 storey building, the 'Hotel Subur'.
For a room with a balcony facing the sea & beach plus full breakfast we paid around 45.
We were in Sitges in March so the town & night life was very quiet, but I can imagine in high season that it get's very busy. The main bars & restaurants were all open & we found one that had chickens roasting on a spit in the doorway - unfortunately I can't remember the name but, I highly recommend it for the food, prices & friendly service.
The beaches here are soft golden sand & have safe bathing areas. The promenade is pedestrianised & has lawns, palm trees & gardens, however cyclists, skaters & even motor scooter riders use it too.
Stroll passed the Church by the old marina and you can walk to what appears to be a derelict area of cliff top. Walk cautiously down the rocky path to find the secluded, sheltered nudist beach, unfortunately there are no toilets or facilities here.
I heartily recommend a visit to Sitges, whether you are Gay, straight, young or old. It retains the charm and traditional old Spanish style that will appeal to anyone..
