| A Visit to The Lake District in Cumbria, UK |

| After buying our new tent recently, Paul & I decided to take a trip up to the North West of the country & visit the Lake District. Yahoo Photo Album - photos soon We left on Wednesday morning & drove up the M11 & A1 before heading off via the A684 through North Yorkshire. We stopped for lunch in the charming town of Leyburn, then carried on through the Yorkshire Dales to Kendal. The weather was a bit on the gloomy side & as we arrived in Bowness on Windermere, the Heavens opened. Luckily we found an excellent Pub, The Albert Inn, & at only �34 for B & B we decided to spend the first night there. Next day was better weather so we found the Park Cliffe Campsite & as it was quiet we had the pick of the best sites to erect the tent. This camp site has excellent facilities. The showers, toilets, laundry room, bar & restaurant etc are of a very high standard. The site rate was only �13 per night and we got a low season deal of 3 nights for price 2. It's family-run & co-managed by a friendly couple from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. The weather brightened up & we did quite a lot of driving & walking, up & down the hills, round the lakes, local towns, Bowness, Ambleside, Kendal, Keswick, Perth, Carlisle plus lots of other charming & historic, pretty towns & villages in between. Cumbria & The Lakes is part of the UK's excellent scenic countryside & tourist areas and is a "must visit" for any overseas visitors. However, as our trip was in May during the foot & mouth crisis we found it a little difficult to explore the region fully, so another trip is definitely on the cards soon. When you do visit this beautiful part of the British countryside I recommend that you take good walking shoes, warm & wet weather gear as well as your T-shirts, shorts & suntan cream.
