Huddersfield New College has recently installed a new Blackboard server. Blackboard is described as "a comprehensive and flexible e-Learning software platform ….. which delivers a course management system, customizable institution-wide portals, online communities, and an advanced architecture that allows for Web-based integration with administrative systems".

In essence this Blackboard environment will allow teachers to place course documents online so that you as students of HNC will be able to log into your course from anywhere (i.e. home) and gain access to relevant course info. An 'Announcements' facility will alert you to Important messages left specifically for you or the class as a whole. A Digital Drop Box is will be available for students to place homework or project documents for marking by your teacher.

Blackboard will also allow you as a student to create Discussion threads where you post messages that can be read by all other students on the same course as you, other students can then add their comments to the thread. Blackboard also has a 'Virtual classroom' element this enables the teacher to facilitate on-line lessons or support sessions.

Our Blackboard server is currently on-line at http://blackboard.huddnewcoll.ac.uk\ but in trial phase. U6 students have been assigned to their blackboard courses, L6 will follow soon. Watch this space for further updates.

The principal function for this web page is to provide students with additional / alternative access to files, information and links regarding the post-16 programs that I actively teach. You may also wish to search for further research material yourself. You could use the Yahoo search engine below however I recommend the following search engines as the results appear to be more accurate. For advice about how to phrase your search criteria click here.
