(Jul 21) -JOSEPH LAVOIE- The Calgary Stampeders proved that they are the best in the west last night as they dominated over the Lions to defeat them 35-2 in front of 34,081 wild fans at McMahon Stadium.
The Stamps not only demonstrated that they deserved to win last year's Western Final but they also reddeemed themselves from their horrible defensive plays last week to the Bombers after surrendering 38 points.
They victory gives the Stampeder swuad a 3-0-0 record and sole possession of first place in the West.
The Calgary defense worked hard. Anthony Prioe knocked down two of Damon Allen's throws. Shonte Peoples came up with his third sack of the season and Greg Frers caught an interception and ran for a touchdown.
"We really pulled everything together on defence tonight. I really like being a part of this unit." said Frers
"We expect our guys to play at that level," said Calgary head coach Wally Buono.
And he means it. The Calgary Stampeders have only lost 12 games at home in all of the '90's.
The B.C. Lions could only manage to score by punting and a missed field goal by kicker Jon Baker.
Damon Allen only managed to compete 10 of 34 passes for 109 yards and two interceptions
