HIGH ADVENTURE CLIMBING
BSA Mecklenburg County Council sponsors a week long high adventure climbing trip each summer through its council Camp Grimes. If climbing is what you enjoy then join us in 2005 for another adventure in climbing.
We meet at Hornet?s Nest Base Camp on Mecklenburg Scout Reservation in Dysartsville, NC below Marion, NC. Monday morning we set out for Camp II on the ridge above Table Rock parking lot in Linville Gorge. Spend a week waking up in the crisp mountain air, strapping on your day pack and climbing gear and setting out each morning for different climbing routes such as The Chimneys along the ridge or more breathtaking views at Table Rock.
Our program receives rave reviews yearly from participants who have come from more than 8 states. We get better every year. A good time is had by all.
All our trips have included single pitch climbing, anchor instruction, multi-pitch climbs, crack and face climbs, rappelling down the gorge and into a cave.
The 2002 trip included Climbing Instructor elements along with the daily climbing. Pitches were done in mountaineering style. The last day offered a 5.10d climb for those who dared while others enjoyed face & crack climbs.
The 2003 trip included daily climbing and the outstanding Nature of Leadership element (NOLS) . It included a Tyrolean Traverse, transitions on a multi-pitch, mock leads and technique training through bouldering practice.
The 2004 trip included single pitch climbing, anchor instruction, 2 pitch and 3 pitch climbs, transitions on a multi-pitch, crack and face climbs, tyrolean traverse, 60+ meter rappel, mock leads and a 5.10d.
