Puerto Galera, Mindoro |

Puerto Galera is situated on a peninsula located on the northern shores of Mindoro Island, about 80 miles south of Manila and 13 miles from Batangas City. The ferry docks at Puerto Galera, but most of the hotels are about 6 miles from Puerto Galera proper. The main tourists areas are Sabang, Big La Laguna, Small La Laguna and White Beach (see Puerto Galera And Vicinity). When Mavel and I went to Sabang, all we knew was ... take the bus to Batangas, ferry to Puerto Galera and banka to Sabang. We were hauling large roll around suitcases and wearing leather shoes and slacks. That was okay until we reached Puerto Galera. Even though there is a dock in Puerto Galera, there were too many other boats tied up so our ferry had to make a beach landing. On top of that Mavel was 6 months pregnant so she wasn't able to carry anything except herself and her purse. Needless to say, upon disembarking, we were wet up to our knees and had to hire porters to carry our baggage. So my first piece of advice, wear shorts and sneakers and pack light, preferably in a knapsack. There are many ways to get to Puerto Galera. These are more fully described in the "Manila to Batangas" section. In the "Batangas to Puerto Galera" section, I discuss what to expect at the Batangas pier and Puerto Galera dock.

Traveling to Sabang or La Laguna areas can also be a challenge which is described in the "Puerto Galera to Sabang" section. I have compiled a fairly extensive list of hotels in Sabang and Las Lagunas areas including prices, links and a detailed map of Sabang, Small La Laguna and Big La Laguna. In the Puerto Galera and Vicinity section, there is another map of Northern Mindoro from White Beach to Sabang. Also, I have included a list of things to see and do in Northern Mindoro |
