| May Day/Beltane April 30th - May 5th May Day is celebrated on 1st day of may. Have you ever heard of the "May Pole"? It is a pole strung with ribbons, usually of pale spring colors. People (usually girls or women) will each take a ribbon in hand, dancing aroung the pole makes the ribbon weave together. The end result being the pole woven with color. What people may not realize is the symbolism behind this. The pole is the phallic symbol of the God, the ribbon, the Lady being intertwined with him. You will never view that game in quit the same way again. Beltane or Beltaine is the time of renewal & the great rite. The "Great Rite" was when the God (now a young man) & the Goddess consummate their union. Bringing for the Goddess becoming pregnant. In the passed, Bonfires would mark this union, those the saying" Let the Beltane fires burn". Beltane which for some is celebrated on April 30th, while others acknowledge May 5th, is a time to now plant your seeds for growing your harvest in the earth. Nurturing them as a mother would her child, with water & food. The sun light strong for aiding the vegetation. This is a time to clean out you home & hearth, of old times and bring in the new. I use the 6 days to clean and do inventory of my magickal items or cabinet. Colors to decorate with are lavendar, pink, pale yellow & white. You could wear or arrange flowers on your altar.
