| My Story My sincere wish is that any child that has the desire to be with horses has that opportunity no matter what his/her financial situation is. I remember when I was young and all I could ever do was think and dream of horses. My family didn't have a lot of money but they scraped up enough to buy me a pony and keep it fed. I didn't feel I could ask them for riding lessons as well. Lucky for me I found a wonderful lady that allowed me to work for my lessons. Funny thing was that I had just as much fun doing the "work" as I did taking the lessons! To this day I feel I owe her so much. She gave me the start I needed to get me well on my way to fullfilling my dream. I have since received my Associate of Applied Science degree with a major in Horse Training and Management and now I find it very satisfying to pass that opportunity on whenever possible. Clear Creek Farm is not a fancy, high dollar facility. It is a farm with pens and stalls and pastures but we make do with what we got and I'm more than happy with it. It is part of my dream that we're still making come true. How My Program Works It's simple, really. I require 2 hours of work for a one hour riding lesson. The type of work depends on the student's age, ability, experience, dependability and desires. We may not run a large, high dollar facility but there is always plenty of work to do and all students will spend time with basic horse care (cleaning stalls and pens, cleaning and filling water buckets, cleaning tack, ect.). After seeing the student in action for a while I may assign additional duties that better suit that individual (grooming, exercising horses, giving baths, ect). |
| Becky Schroeder and CD (APHA gelding owned by Rob and Lynn Reynolds) Becky put in a lot of miles and hours in the saddle last year as a working student. I think it all paid off when they placed in every one of their classes at the Madison County Fair Horse Show! They competed in Halter, Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Trail and even did the speed events. To top it all off, it was CD's first show! Good job Becky! |
