FAQ's
What is a School Resource Officer?
A School Resource Officer is a law enforcment officer whose primary duty is to work within a contracting school.  The SRO follows the "Triad Concept":
1)  the SRO provides safety within the school
2)  the SRO works as an educator in law
     related topics
3)  the SRO provides law related counseling

Ok, but what does a School Resource Officer really do?
Typically, the SRO focuses on crime prevention, not criminal apprehension.  In other words, the SRO does not patrol the hallway looking to arrest students.  On the contrary, the SRO's goal is for there to be no criminal activity within the school.

The greatest accomplishment an SRO can make is to open communications and build a rapport with staff and students.  By being proactive, the SRO can address concerns that may potentially become harmful situations in the future.

Does the SRO need to carry a gun in our schools?
If a potentially tragic crisis were to errupt during the school day, and a trained law enforcement officer were in the school, would parents expect that officer to intervene?  Of course they would.  Then that officer must possess all the tools to resolve the issue that places staff and students in danger.
