BERN, Switzerland
In November of 2004, I had the opportunity to go to Bern, Switzerland to perform at a Country Music Festival. I loved it. Here are some pics of the trip.
I had an uneventful flight to Zurich. I was happy to discover that my Gibson J-200 guitar made the trip without any problems. T.J. met at the airport and drove me to my hotel in Bern. He told me that I could not sleep yet and we should go sightseeing. Here we are in Murten!
We drove about an hour out of Bern through beautiful country. We drove through a stone arch -straight into a 900 year old town! It was like stepping into another world.
Murten is a rampart-walled village very near the border with France. We wandered the streets and found our way to the actual ramparts which we climbed. I loved the architecture and all the red geraniums. The whole village was exactly what I had hoped to see! We had a delightful lunch, then T.J. took me back to my hotel and let me take a nap before dinner(I HAD been on a plane all night!).
The next day I had a wonderful Swiss breakfast -they have the BEST coffee! Another artist flew in from Nashville -Kelly Lang. Once she, her mom and two guitar players arrived from Zurich we all went into Bern. It's a beautiful city that burned 400 years ago. They rebuilt the city buildings from sandstone, but there are towers which still guard the entrance into the city. The river Aare snakes its way thru the city. This pic was taken from a park at one end of the city overlooking  the river.
