Czerny, Carl
(1791-1857)
Austrian pianist, composer, and teacher, born in Vienna.
He was a pupil and friend of Ludwig van Beethoven, and the Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt was one of his students.
He composed nearly a thousand works in almost every form, including opera; best known are his sets of progressively difficult piano exercises. Among these are The School of Fingering and The School of Velocity.
