A new Kara has recently appeared, thanks to the Superman Adventures animated television program. Her story uses some elements from the classic Kara-El continuity and creates its own. This girl is Kara In-Ze, the last daughter of Argo, in her version a neighboring planet to Krypton. When Krypton explodes, Argo is thrown out of the orbit of its sun, and the reverberations kill her father, Zor, and sisters. Kara is twelve. Four years later Argo's atmosphere begins to freeze. Kara's mother, Kala, a physician, manages to convert medi-chambers into cryogenic deep sleep chambers for them and Kara's uncle Del and cousin Dar. Falling ice damages all the chambers except Kara's. Eventualy Superman finds her. Kara In-Ze develops super powers under Earth's yellow sun, but unlike Superman, Kara is not harmed by Kryptonite. However, Superman sends Kara to live in Smallville with his Martha and Jonathan Kent, even though the restless teenager dreams of being a superhero just like Superman. So secretly at first, Kara fashions a super-costume for herself, and then tries to take on none other than Darkseid, Granny Goodness, and her Female Furies, and the three Phantom Zone criminals. With her bare-midriff T-shirt she also catches the eye of Jimmy Olsen.

Kara In-Ze is a throwback to the original conception of Supergirl, an innocent teenager who does super-heroic deeds just for the thrill of it. She even has an orange cat that wears a red cape. She also has a sense of fun in contrast to Superman's seriousness on the animated television series. She will probably not to grow out of the youthful "Superman's sidekick" role (a label that she dislikes), but for now, Kara In-Ze shows a lot of promise for those who still miss Kara Zor-El.
