| THE HISTORY OF THE FOURTH MARINE RAIDERS Told from the perspective of Jeff Gomez (aka HyPeR) 0 - PREFACE Somewhere around 2002, a kid named Greg started playing DoD. This kid's alias was $nipes (but now it is Dark). His mom decided to buy him a server, and since he had a server, he decided to make a clan. He named it <Zaitsev>:, after the famous Russian sniper from WWII, Vassili Zaitsev. It was a very popular clan, and many were part of it. 1 - THE STORY OF ZAITSEV BEGINS I was looking around for a good avalanche server, when I found the <Zaitsev>: Clan Server. I joined, and remembered that many of the people were friendly. I played there often for a few days. One day I joined the server when it was empty and $nipes was on HLSW (I joined because I connected through console, so I didn't know it would be empty). So we talked a little bit and got to know eachother more. The next day, a new guy was recruited, RON. That same day, Greg invited me in, so I accepted. I was now part of the clan that would lead me to 4thR. Everything was good in Zaitsev. I had lots of fun in that clan. I even made a site for it (Yes, that is THIS site, thats why the URL is www.clanzaitsev.cjb.net and not www.clan4thR.cjb.net). But after a few months, I noticed the corruption and stupidity of the clan. I tried to do something about it, always suggesting ideas and such. Even $nipes told me once, "man, you never agree with my ideas". Later on, I was rewarded with admin for all my great contributions. Then a few weeks later it was taken away. He said it was because people changed the maps and never changed it back, was I one of those people? Nope. 2 - THE FALL OF THE "ORIGINAL" ZAITSEV Getting my admin taken away, I was pissed. But I still stuck with the clan. Then all of the sudden $nipes disappeared and was missing for about 6 weeks. During that 6 weeks, there wasn't one admin. The server was out of control. But with other people to play with, such as blackninja, kitty, virtual, ron, winters, reaper, and E. (FoLeY) around, it wasn't too bad. Kitty announced that he would try and make a 2nd zaitsev clan server. We were really excited, but he was having problems. A few of us were on the server one day, then all the sudden the server froze. WTF! I reconnected to the server through console, and the most bizarre thing happened. My DoD switched to CS (Remember, this was when we played on WON). All of us were confused, especially with the server name switch. AOD Art of Destruction Clan server? Did Greg sell the server? Did some other clan buy it? No, he just switched the clan server to CS to start a CS clan. He tried explaining to me, he wanted to have a CS clan and DoD clan. But he didn't realize that kitty failed at starting a 2nd Zaitsev server. You see, he thought that he could make it so Kitty's server would be the <Zaitsev>: home, while his server would be the AOD clan server for CS. This way, he could be the leader of a clan from each game. He apologized, but it was too late to turn back since he already started AOD. We were left without a server. 3 - THE NEW ZAITSEV: THE FOURTH MARINE RAIDERS The dedicated DoD players (The majority of us) didn't go on with him. Instead, me and virtual formed 4thR, while Winters and Reaper formed 509th. Some others just quit. RON, Kitty, and E. joined 4thR (Noone joined 509th with winters and reaper). $emi, a guy who was kicked out of the <Zaitsev>: clan in the past, also was let in 4thR (He was booted later due to inactivity). We tried our hardest at getting everyone together, and we were pretty successful. Virtual disappeared all the sudden and left me to lead the clan on my own. Since I thought we could be partner clans with 509th, I decided to meet at the server they met at: Koolaids Killing Jug. Let's get back to AOD. A few weeks later, it fell. This is because his second in command, who had admin, screwed him over. He banned $nipes out of the server, and almost everyone from AOD joined the second in command's newly formed clan. $nipes had a few remaining followers, but quicky got back up by recruiting a few more players and starting a new clan (I forgot the name, i think TOP: Team of Pros). Also, Kitty quit because he was getting tired of DoD. A few months later he came back wanting to return, but wasn't allowed back in. 4 - KOOLAIDS KILLING JUG: THE HOME OF THE FOURTH MARINE RAIDERS Koolaid's Killing Jug... ahh just the name refreshes me. Our home, our server. Everything was good there and we had lots of fun. Some new guys were recruited, including a guy named Cracker. The 509th clan stopped meeting at Koolaids because they bought themselves a new server. We were going to make that our meeting spot, but due to it being a crap server, we decided to stay at the Jug. We were real good friends with the admin. And he was nice enough to promise me admin, and make the Jug the official "Home of 4thR". Then the brand new home of 4thR crashed for about a month and a half. We started meeting at THE VILLE. During that time, RON quit after being invited to a clan who said they were going to get a server. Shortly after, ASDF (The admin of the JUG) brought back Koolaids and gave us the admin he promised. Everything was going good, again. Even better than last time. We even had scrims and stuff at the server. If youre curious about what happened to $nipes at this time, let me tell you. He decided to bring back <Zaitsev>:, and with all the hype he created, we lost a member: FoLeY (E.) who wanted to join them. But $nipes then found out his provider didnt allow DoD at the time, or something like that, so Zaitsev never really came back then. The old TOP continued TOP without snipes. $nipes still stayed in CS, but not as the leader of TOP, he led a new CS clan. 509th fell and REAPER and WINTERS joined $nipes new CS clan. And the missing Virtual came back to join his new CS clan too. 5 - UPS AND DOWNS IN THE HISTORY OF 4thR Now back to 4thR. One big event was the ban of cracker. I banned him. My reasons were just. This was a big turning point. After that everyone just got lazy all the sudden. Everyone stopped playing, going on the forums, and communicating. Then we got back together and everything was back to normal. I gave Inertia the title of coleader. Then, I had to go on vacation for Winter break, being absent for about a month. I came back to find the clan on its knees. It seriously was about to fall. At this time, $nipes really brought <Zaitsev>: back (this was a few months after the last time he said he was going to). He jumped at the opportunity to try and convince me that 4thR was going to fall, and tried to get me in Zaitsev. He got RON in, but not me. We lost about half of our clan at that time because they all became inactive or believed we were going to fall. Then, our clan came back up! It was a miracle. I especially thank Namelesswanderer and Blackninja from keeping 4thR from falling. Since we were missing a server, and a server was never found during the time I was gone for Winter Break, I thought it would be a good idea if we could make the <Zaitsev>: server our meeting spot. 6 - ZAITSEV FALLS... ONCE AGAIN It was the return of the glorious 4thR. We didn't fall, we stayed strong. It was hard to believe for some people.Things were actually working really well with us meeting on the Zaitsev server. We even started having weekly scrims with them. Then, on the day before our third weekly scrim was about to happen, the unbelievable came. I refreshed my favorites list to find a new CS server on it. What is this... "|-=Nipper=-|" Clan server? I checked the information to find out it was the <Zaitsev>: server... Our history is right now being made - To be continued... [2/16/04] |

"-[4thR] name |Nz-", the Nz stands for New Zaitsev - New Zaitsev was one of the ideas we had for when we (Virtual and I) were naming the clan - 4thR, or the Fourth Marine Raiders, was an actual real life squad in WWII. It was Virtual's uncle's squad. |
