Rules of the High Guard

Section 0 -- Clan Charter

0.1.1 -- Members of the clan are required to uphold certain standards in gaming, disposing of tactics considered to be "lame," or ones that may even be illegal according to the rules laid out by Blizzard for the use of Starcraft, Broodwar and Battle.net.
0.1.1a -- Members may not use third party programs designed to give the user abilities he/she would not have otherwise. Specifically this is referring to "hacks," "cracks," and other similar third party programs. Even more specific, these are map hacks, stackers, mineral hacks, and so forth. Use of such programs is punishable by removal from the clan at the discretion of the Admiralty.
0.1.1b -- Use of bugs and exploits is generally frowned upon, however is not, by itself, cause for removal from the clan. However, ones who use such tactics may be stripped of rank and/or be held back from promotion at the discretion of the Admiralty.
Such bugs are subject to change, however in general terms, they would be classified as any move that takes advantage of a bug in the program that creates an effect not intended by the creators of the game.

0.1.2 -- Clan members are required to uphold certain standards in the gaming community, meaning that ones that could be considered abusive, excessively annoying and so forth would not be acceptable members of the clan. Such would include spamming, excessive swearing, flaming, sexually explicit speach in public channels, sexual harrasment and other similar behaviour. Ones who display this kind of behaviour after entering the clan will likely not receive any promotions or privileges.

0.1.3 -- Clan warfare is subject to certain rules within the charter of the clan.
0.1.3a -- Enemy clans that enter into war with the clan that have a charter similar to our own(no hacking, cracking or otherwise cheating) are protected against cheating by our clans members. On observing a hack being used by the enemy, it is preferred that no hack be used in retalliation. In such a case it is preferred to exploit the weaknesses of the hack being used, or an Anti-Hack program may be used, if available.
0.1.3b -- Enemy clans that enter into war with the clan that have no rules regarding hacking, cracking or cheating are protected under the same rules as under 0.1.3a with the exception of informing the enemy leaders.
0.1.3c -- Enemy clans that enter into war with the clan that have a policy of cheating, or whose members are known to cheat are not protected by the charter of this clan, however they are protected against certain forms of cheating, as followes; When engaging in combat with a clan that falls under these rules, an Anti-Hack may be used from the outset. If none is available, operate under the assumption that they are hacking, and plan the game accordingly.
0.1.3d -- During a Clan War, a clan member from either side may fight in clan matches until such a time as he/she; A) Is killed during an official clan battle, B) Surrendors during an official clan battle or C) Disconnects during an official clan battle. After a clan member from either side is considered Killed, no game they participate in may be considered official, however they may participate in an unlimited number of unofficial games.
0.1.4 -- Members of the clan are to be protected above all else.
0.1.4a -- While in a game, clan members are considered top priority. If they are attacked it is every officer's duty to defend that player, especially in an instance where they may be overwhelmed. Helping them when they are able to fend off an attack themselves is not necessary, however if a member has excess units they may be used to help. In a case where the other player may be overwhelmed, officer's are obligated to send whatever help they can.
0.1.4.a.1 -- When an allied player's base is lost, it is considered common courtesy to allow them to set up a camp in your base. A position by minerals and vespene is generally expected. For someone that has lost their base, it is common courtesy to not demand too much of the resources in the new base. Once a base has been established, it is a good idea to expand into an undeveloped part of the map, if possible. If such is not possible, an attempt to keep as low a profile as possible is preferred, though at the discretion of the players involved. The above are general guidelines for behaviour in a general game, but are considered mandatory between clan members. Failure to provide sanctuary for a clan member can result in demotion, restriction from clan battles, restriction from promotion, or all of the above, if not removal from the clan.

0.1.4b -- The clan is not only a group of players that are allied, but is also a brotherhood of players. Clan members are expected to be there for other members even outside of a game. Real life problems, or problems of any sort are something that everyone can help with, even if it's just saying a few comforting words. Though this is not something that can be punished when not done, or even checked on, it is something that would be expected of an upstanding member of the gaming community.

0.1.5 -- Allies of the clan are protected by the charter. They are to be treated as full fledged members of the clan, to be protected first above non-clan members. Of course, members of the clan are to be protected above all else in accord with 0.1.4, however if no clan member is in need of help, then a clan ally is to be helped above all others. In addition, while in a game, an ally(even if not a member of any clan) is an ally and should be helped when all other clan members and allies are not in need.

Section 1 -- Admittance to the Clan, Clan Ranks and Promotions

1.1.1 -- Applicants to join the clan are subject to extensive review by the senior officers of the clan.
1.1.1a -- Entry as Crewman, 2nd Class: A player who shows promise may be awarded an honorary title of this rank, which may be applied to a non High Guard player account. This shows their connection to the clan, as such, however they may not represent the clan in clan matches or serve in other official capacities.
1.1.1b -- Entry as Crewman, 1st Class: A player who shows promise as a candidate for entry to the clan may be given this position in recognition of their skill. The position is the same as the 2nd Class, however this position comes with a Clan Account, which allows the player to more fully represent the clan, though they may not do so in clan matches.
1.1.1c -- REMOVED
1.1.1d -- Any applicant who is considered for entrance must adhere to all standards laid out in these rules, and in the Charter of the clan. While at the rank of Crewman, a player is considered to be learning the rules, and may need to be warned about their behaviour. Only when they conform to these standards may they be admitted to the clan.
1.1.1e -- An applicant may, at any time, be disqualified from becoming a member for consistent violation of the clan's rules. Consistent violation is at the discretion of the Admiralty, however it would generally be considered consistent after 2 or 3 warnings. A disqualified player may not hold any rank within the clan, and any accounts with the clan tag owned by said player will be automatically banned from the channel.
1.1.1f -- Any entrant into the clan must create a new account for play within the clan. Such names must follow the format "[HG]". For a user with the name "Foobar" their name would be "Foobar[HG]".

1.1.2 -- "Junior" level officers(Ensign to Lieutenant Commander) are subject to a specific code of conduct.
1.1.2a -- A junior officer must at all times uphold the rules and charter of the clan or be immediatly punished according to the section of the rules that are violated.
1.1.2b -- Junior officer's are not to be given "command" positions, though they may take command in situations where there are no officers ranked higher than themselves.
1.1.2ba -- When an officer of higher rank is present, a junior officer may not take any position of authority, though they may be used to assist the senior officer.
1.1.2bb -- When no officer of higher rank is present, a junior officer may take limited command of the situation, limited to immediate field action, or administrative function in the clan channel.

1.1.3 -- "Senior" or Command level officers(Commander and Captain) are subject to the same rules as junior officers, in addition to their own code of conduct.
1.1.3a -- Unlike Junior officers, Senior officers have the primary responsibility for commanding the troops. Commanders are typically assigned to assist a Captain as a Squadron leader.
1.1.3b -- Senior officer's have a responsibility for ensuring that the clan channel is kept clean. Thus they have the power, and the duty to kick and even ban users from the channel and so forth.

1.1.4 -- Promotions are governed by several factors including length of membership, melee wins as well as the ratio of Wins to Losses on the player's account. All stats are obtained from the players Clan account, not their regular account. The ratio of Wins to Losses is figured by taking the fraction the ratio represents(take the lower number and divide by the higher; eg: 3/1 is 1/3 or 33%(0.33).) and then doing the same with the players wins//losses(losses are always above the wins in the fraction; Wins/Losses of 500 and 100 respectively would be a ratio of 100/500. Same for Wins/Losses of 100 and 500 respectively, which would be 500/100.(Though hopefully nobody will be in the clan with those kinds of losses!))

1.1.4a -- Crewman, 2nd Class: See 1.1.1a.

1.1.4b -- Crewman, 1st Class: See 1.1.1b.

1.1.4c -- Ensign: A player who has gone through a sufficient probationary period (Either as a Crewman, or in association with the Clan) may be awarded the rank of Ensign.

1.1.4d -- Lieutenant: A player that has served as an Ensign for a sufficient period of time may be promoted to Lieutenant at the discretion of the Admiralty, or their Squadron Leader. A typical player of this rank will show exemplary behaviour in speach and in deed, and should have decent playing ability. An average player will generally stay at this rank indefinatly

1.1.4e -- Lieutenant Commander: A Lieutenant that has served in that position for a period no less than 1 week may be awarded this position. This is a probationary rank for a player to rise to higher positions within the clan, though an exemplary player may level out at this rank. A Lt. Commander may be given limited command responsibilities, and will be a very responsible person, trustworthy.

1.1.4f -- Commander: Lieutenant Commanders that have served as such for no less than 2 weeks may be promoted to Commander at the discretion of the Admiralty, or a Squad Leader. A Commander will be a very responsible player, one that is trusted and that is exemplary to the rest of the clan.

1.1.4g -- Captain: A Captain is given their position on the merit of their playing ability and leadership skills. They will be a long-time StarCraft player that has excellent playing ability and leadership skills. Captain's take on the added responsibility of taking care of the officer's under their command, ensuring that the Clan Channel is kept free of abusive people, and that the experience is kept enjoyable for everyone.

1.1.4h -- Commodore: A mature player that is well-known and respected within the clan, as well as outside, may be given this position in recognition of such. They should be someone that is responsible, and has good judgement even in heated situations. Since they may be considered a Junior Administrator, minor disputes within the clan may be taken to a Commodore as an alternative to speaking to the Leaders or an Admiral.

1.1.4i -- Admiral: The highest rank achievable by a player within the clan, an Admiral should be a very exemplary player, well disciplined at the game itself, and disciplined in behaviour. Considered a Senior Administrator, an Admiral may be approached with more weighty matters respecting the clan, such as a dispute with another clan, clan wars, disregard of clan rules and so forth. An Admiral will speak for the Leaders of the clan when they aren't available to speak for themselves, and should be respected as such.

1.1.4j -- Fleet Admiral: The highest rank in the clan, this rank is reserved only for the Leaders of the clan, and will not be given to other players. A player of this position has absolute and final say in all matters respecting the clan. Any order may be countermanded by a Fleet Admiral at their discretion. Decisions regarding clan policy, rules and so forth are typically decided in a private meeting between the Fleet Admirals, though input is accepted from other users. Though they will listen to input, once a decision has been reached, it is final. The purpose of this position is to provide an absolute, and final say in all matters, should such need to be resolved above regular channels.

1.1.5 -- Squadrons are governed slightly differently than the mainstream of the clan, though all the same rules apply.

1.1.5a -- Squadron Ranking: Independant of Clan Ranking, each member of a squad may be given a Squad Ranking which indicates their position within a Squad.
1.1.5aa -- Squad Leader(4 Bars): Squad Leaders must be a Commander or Captain in good standing, and will generally be well respected by most members of the clan.
1.1.5ab -- Squadron Commander(3 Bars): Squadron Commanders are typically Lieutenant Commanders and Commanders in the clan that are in good standing and have strong leadership ability. The Assistant Squad Leader should be given this rank.
1.1.5ac -- Squadron Lieutenant(2 Bars): This rank is given to higher ranked squad members such as Lieutenants and Lieutenant Commanders that are valuable to the squadron, at the discretion of the Squad Leader.
1.1.5ad -- Squadron Corporal(1 Bar): This rank is given to new members of a squad, typically Crewmen and Ensigns.

1.1.5b -- Rules governing squadrons. Squads are generally independant bodies that may operate with a degree of autonomy, however they are required to report to the Admiralty in all matters.
1.1.5ba -- Squadrons may set their own standards for admittance to the clan, but may only accept members that have passed the entrance test as part of the squadron.
1.1.5bb -- Squad Leaders have the authority to promote and demote clan members within their squadron at their discretion up to and including the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Such must be done within the rules for promotion set out in the clan's rules.
1.1.5bc -- Squad Leaders have the authority to give a squadron rank to any member of their squadron, as determined by their skill. An officer with a lower clan ranking than another, but a higher squadron ranking is entirely possible, however such should be kept to a minimum, reserved only for exemplary clan members. In such a situation, the two officers should be considered to be the same rank in authority only, as governed by the following:
1.1.5bca -- Clan battles are generally to be considered outside the realm of Squadron control. As such, a higher clan-ranked officer will take command in such a situation, overruling a higher squad-ranked officer.
1.1.5bcb -- During a squad battle between squadrons or in a war between a squad and another clan, a higher squad-ranked officer will take command over a higher clan-ranked officer, due to the internal nature of the battle.
1.1.5bcc -- In the clan channel(s), a higher clan-ranked officer will be in charge, with the exception of a squad controlled channel, or when the only members present are squad members.
1.1.5bd -- A Squadron is allowed to have one 'bot present in the clan channel, run at the direction and expense of the Squad Leader, or designated squad member. If a 'bot is setup to run in the clan channel, the Admiralty must be informed of it's presence. The squad's 'bot name must follow the following convention; The name of the squad, followed by "_squad[HG]". For example, for Delta Squad, the bot would be named "Delta_Squad[HG]".
1.1.5be -- Because of it's semi-autonomous nature, a squadron is allowed to have one private channel for themselves. Such a channel must have a 'bot present, run at the direction and expense of the Squad Leader, or designated squad member. The Admiralty must be informed of the Squad channel, and the channel's bot should typically be named as the name of the squad, followed by "_squad". For example, for Delta Squad, the bot would be named "Delta_Squad". This is only a guideline, however keeping 'bot names organized provides a more professional appearance.
