This jig gets its name from a huge rock over Allumette Lake in the Upper Ottawa. There is a Indian legend about the place: once an Algonquin child was snatched by a large bird. The mother climbed to the top of the precipice to save her child. Indian travellers passing it would leave offerings for their safe passage.
