Gaeilge
Grosse-Île

This is a slow air I wrote about an island in the St. Lawrence River, just east of Québec City. During the Famine, thousands of Irish died in the fever sheds on the island, or in the coffins ships standing offshore, without even having set foot on the promised land. They are now buried in mass graves. For the lucky, however, Grosse-Île was the gateway to a new life. This piece was recorded on the
Kitty's Kitchen CD. It has been arranged here for the harp.
