I travelled to Wellington for the first time on December the 6th, travelling by train. It was one of only three train journeys that I would make whilst in New Zealand, and was also the longest, short by American standards, but even so it took most of the day.

I had two specific separate visits to this, New Zealand's capital city. On the first I had arrived from Auckland, arriving fairly late in evening. However, I had a good map of the part of the city that I needed and knew more less exactly where I would be staying. But I had not anticipated how steep the street up to it actually was, and hauling a heavy case up it proved to be quite a struggle!

The following day proved to be a nice but windy day. I walked down to the waterfront, and then went back and found the lower station of the famed cable car, after doing a little bit of shopping and window-shopping in the Golden Mile (Lambton Quay).

Riding up in the cable car produced an interesting experience, for I met up once more with the school teachers, children and helpers from the Maori primary-school whom I had already met previously whilst riding down from Auckland to Wellington on the train the day before. They were friendly and interesting bunch and I had spoken with quite a few of them, children and adults alike.

At the top I admired the view, and then spent the afternoon exploring the botanical gardens. The following morning I would be heading down to the Lynx Ferry Terminal and making for Picton and the South Island.

On my second visit, I once again arrived quite late in the evening, having arrived back from off the Lynx ferry, the main difference was that this time I knew exactly where I was going for I was staying in this same place has previously.
