I was disappointed when she said that she wasn't going to join me on the promo tour, I had seen it as a chance to try and get things sorted between us, but at the same time I could understand why she had said no. It wouldn't be fair to drag Dylan from country to country with us while he was so young. Maybe she was right, perhaps time apart would be good for us. I sat in the nursery trying to get Dylan back to sleep, I missed him all day. I walked back and forth with him, trying to get him to stop crying, talking to him about everything, as if he was going to help me solve my problems. Finally, after what seemed like ages, he was sleeping again. I put him back in his cot, and tip toed back out again. I stood in the hallway for a few minutes, before going back into the bedroom, I didn't want to argue again. I opened the door quietly, expecting Ally to still be reading, or awake at least so that we could talk. I looked over at the bed and noticed she was already sleeping, I sighed and got into bed, trying not to wake her, but she stirred a little.
"Sorry." I whispered, moving her hair from her face. "Hmmm? It's ok." She replied, still half sleeping. "Is he sleeping again?" "Yeah," I said, "I thought he would never go back to sleep." I looked over at her and saw that she was sleeping again, so I decided to just wait until tomorrow to try and talk about everything with Ally.
I woke up early the next morning, and realised that Ally was already up, I got a shower and went downstairs to the kitchen and saw her giving Dylan his breakfast. "Hey!" She said as I walked in. "Look Dylan!" I walked over to them both. I had missed the little things like this, I spent so much time on the new album, I couldn't remember the last time we were all together like this. "You want some breakfast?" She asked. I nodded my head. "I'll get it once I've finished here." "I'll finish giving him his breakfast" I offered, walking over to him. Ally nodded and handed me the bowl, then walked over to the fridge. "Fry up?" She asked, yawning, and looking over at me. "What are going to have?" I asked her. "I'm not hungry." She yawned again. "Why don't you go back to bed. I'll finish here, and just make something myself." "No, it's ok" she rubbed her face, I raised my eyebrows. "Go on," I replied, "I can handle this." I smiled. "Ok then," she walked over and gave me a kiss on the cheek, "Wake me up in a while, ok?" I nodded and she walked back up to bed.
I finished feeding Dylan, and decided to go for some shopping for stuff I was going to need for the trip tonight. I strapped him into his pushchair, and left a note for Ally on the bedside table letting her know where we were. I was walking along, when I realised this was the most time I had spent with Dylan over the last 6 weeks, and about one of the only days that Ally and I hadn't argued, maybe things would work out ok.
I was walking through the shopping centre in town with Dylan, when I saw a familair face. "Derek!" I shouted, and he came walking over. "Hey there!" He said, "Hey little guy!" He said down to Dylan, who just smiled at him. "What are you doing in Dublin?" "We had a couple of weeks off, so I thought I'd come over and check it out, I was hoping to see you guys!"he answered. "Where's Ally?" "At the house," I replied, "you should pop round one night. Me and the lads are going away for two weeks, but Ally and Dylan are just going to stay here." "Yeah? That'd be ok?" "Yeah, I'm sure! Here's the address." I handed him a piece of paper. "You guys can catch up on what's been going on for the past few months." "OK, thanks." He said, smiling. "I'll do that." "I've got to run," I said, "lots to do before we leave." "Yeah, see you later." He said, "you too, little guy." He said, waving to Dylan who waved back. "Bye." I said, and we both went off to finish what we had been doing.

Chapter 31
...bryan...
I stayed shopping for another hour or so, and totally spoiled Dylan in the process. I bought him so many new toys and stuff, I think it was because I felt guilty about not spending time with him. I bought him a toy aeroplane and explained to him all about the trip I was taking. He didn't understand, I knew that, but he just kept playing with the plane until he fell asleep again. I drove back to the house, and went inside quietly. Dylan was still asleep, so I decided to put him in his cot for a nap. I smiled when I realised he wasn't going to let go of the plane, in fact, he went to sleep still holding it. I looked in the bedroom and saw that Ally was still sleeping, well, it must be tiring trying to look after an 11 month old almost singlehandedly. I took the note I had left and threw it in the bin, and looked over at the bed. Just then Ally woke up. "Hey." I said quietly. "Hi." She smiled, "Where have you been?" I realised I still had my jacket on. "Just out for some things. I think I managed to tire Dylan out. He's sleeping." "Yeah?" I nodded, she looked amazed. "He doesn't usually sleep until well after dinnertime." I ponited at the clock, it was almost 1pm. "I must have been tired!" She laughed and stretched. "Come over here." She said, and patted the space beside her on the bed. I walked over and sat down. I took off my jacket, and put it over a chair next to the bed. "You know what?" I grinned, she looked up at me. "I don't need to work today..." "You don't?" She grinned back and hugged me, I think we were both thinking the same thing. I leaned in and kissed her, and for the first time in about 6 weeks, she actually kissed me back. She giggled, and I took off my jumper too....
"So, what do you want to do with the rest of your day off then?" "The weather's nice outside, maybe we could all go to that park, we haven't done that for ages." I suggested. She nodded and went into the nursery to fetch Dylan, I followed her, expecting him to still be asleep. We walked in to see him sitting quietly in his cot, still playing with his new toy. "What's that you've got there?" Ally asked as she picked him up. "I got him that today." I explained, "so, he'll know what a plane is, then maybe he could come on the next trip with us." "Oh, what else did you get today?" "Well, you've got to see this!" I pointed to a remote control car. "Whose car?" I looked at her, puzzled, "I mean, your's or his?" She laughed. "His!" I said, "but I can show him how to use it." "You're a big kid, Bry!" We both laughed. "Um, we met someone too." Ally put him down on the floor. "Don't keep me in suspense!Who?" "Derek, he's in Dublin for a few weeks." "Oh."
"I told him he should come round one night to see you both, I gave him the address and the phone number too.Is that ok?" I asked. "Yeah, I guess so. I suppose he should see Dylan, he's not seen him for ages. It'll be good to catch up with him.Are you ok with this?" I nodded, "yeah, he knows the score. Come on, let's get going." I picked Dylan up and put his jacket back on him. We still hadn't had any dinner, so we took some sandwiches with us and decided to have a picnic in the park too, if the weather stayed nice. We walked along in the park, not really saying much, when Ally said something. "What time does your flight leave at?" "1130pm." "That's awful late."she commented. "The later the flight, the less fans will show up, well Lou thinks that. I know it's late, you don't have to come to the airport, if you don't want to." I answered. "Don't you want me to go?"she asked, getting defensive. "Of course I do." "Ok, we'll be at the airport. I'm going to miss you." "You could still come." I offered. "No, we discussed this, it's better if we stay here. Anyway, you've arranged for Derek to come over when you're away." She said. "Yeah." I was disappointed again. "We're ok now though?" She nodded. "Let's find somewhere to sit down, I'm starving." We sat down on the grass and ate the dinner we had brought with us. We were just finished when Dylan stood up, we both sat and watched him. "I think he's going to do it." I whispered to Ally. But he just stood there, as if contemplating whether or not to try to walk alone. We sat there puzzled, as he pointed to someone, who was walking towards us. It was Derek. We sat there shocked, as Dylan started to walk over towards him. "Oh my God.Look, he's doing it." She cried, as she walked over behind him. I felt so happy at seeing it, but at the same time sad, because of who he was walking towards. 'Maybe he realises who Derek is.' I thought, but my thoughts were interrupted by a cry, as he fell over just before reaching Derek. Automatically I walked over and picked him up, and he stopped crying. "WOW! I didn't realise he could walk yet!" Derek said, shocked. "He can't, couldn't. That was the first time!" Ally cried, and hugged Derek.
Then she turned back to me, "Did you see?!" "Yeah." I said, and put Dylan back down on the grass, I think she noticed that I wasn't all happy. "What's wrong?" "Nothing, I'm still shocked I think." I lied. "I can rest easy on the trip now I know I won't miss that." I laughed. "Yeah." She said and gave me a hug. " I better go," Derek said, "you guys are gonna have some job keeping up with that boy now!" He laughed. "I'll give you a call, maybe tomorrow,Ally?" "Yeah, that'd be good." She said. "See you guys later." He said, and waved goodbye to us, and walked away with a grin on his face, after all, he had just seen his son walk for the first time. "See you later!" We both called after him , while Dylan waved to him. "What a day!" Ally laughed. "Yeah." I answered and we both sat back down on the grass again.
