| "Where is she?" Amy asked the bouquet she was holding. "I honestly don't think the flowers are going to answer you on that one" Esther replied as she shook her head. I laughed a bit before returning my attention to the clock. Clara was an hour late for her wedding."Can I come in?" a voice asked from behind the door. Amy and Esther exchanged glances before leaping for the door. "Clar... ahh..." they screeched but there voices dropped in the middle when they saw it wasn't Clara. "Why Mrs. Shane Filan, so nice of you to drop by." I smiled as a wave of pink exploded over Vikki's face. She regained her posture then asked, "Have any of you seen Clara?" We all shook our heads, "Nope." Esther said, "Have you?" Amy looked at her and then sighed, "Essie, if she had seen Clara why would she be asking us?" Esther made a nervous laugh."Vikki, how's Kian doing?" I asked as I pulled her to the side. "Oh Mei, you should see him, he hasn't moved from his position in half an hour. The boys are making sure to keep all alcohol away from him. I'm quite sure he'd drink it at this point." She whispered. I swallowed hard, "I think I should see him." I announced as reached for the door handle. Vikki grabbed me arm, you sure you want to go by yourself?" she asked. I thought for a while, "Yea, I think I'll go by myself." I opened the door and took a few steps outside in my bridesmaid dress. "Melia!" Vikki called. "Yea?" I asked as I turned around. "Erm... be kind, ok?" she said back. I nodded and walked down the hall. "Heya Mei!" Mark whispered as he pulled me close. "Hey Mark!" I replied as I gave him a quick kiss, "But you know I really have to go now." I said as I pulled away. "Why?" he asked sweetly as he pulled me in for another kiss. "No please Mark, I need to tend to Kian, he's hurting right now." I answered as I made my way down the hall. I glanced back to see Mark kind of hurt, "Sorry." I whispered as I walked down to the door on the other side.I walked slowly to the other door, when I put why ear to it I could hear a little mumbling. I sighed and knocked on the door, no answer. Slowly opening the door, I heard a bit of a murmur and a few sniffles. I walked towards the sound to see a slumped figure on a box behind a table. I walked closer, his crying became more audible. I could see tear spots on the picture he was holding of him and Clara. His hand reached up for the book of tissues by me, he instead grabbed my dress. The soft fabric seemed to alarm him as he asked, "Clara?" before making his way to my face. The happiness in his face dropped when he saw it was only I. "Ah, I'm sorry Ki. I thought Clara would come." I sympathized as I took the seat next to him. "Ya, I did to." He spoke softly as he rubbed Clara's face in the picture. He looked up at me, a bit of hurt gleamed in his eyes, "You know what, Mei? I though she wanted this, I thought we were close! Maybe I was too pushy... I probably rushed this onto her!" he cried as he pushed the picture into my hands, "I thought we were happy! Isn't she happy with me? I now she is only..." he paused as he got up to the window, "I am beginning to doubt it now. I mean, isn't this her, OUR dream?" he trailed off as he fumbled with the pillow in his lap. "Oh Kian, I'm sure she's only got wedding jitters or something... I'm sure she'll turn up." I reassured him as I stood up to give him a hug. "You sure?" he asked his eyeing full of tears."Melia... can I talk to you for just a sec? Shane asked as he came from behind me. "Ya. Sure Shane." I replied, as I looked his way, at the doorway, I turned back to Kian, "Positive." I added with a smile, as I left him alone in the room. I hoped he wouldn't do anything irrational in his state."God! I had no idea he was getting that bad." Shane moaned as I shut the door. I nodded, "Ya and I think he's gotten a bit better. This whole wedding thing, or should I say no wedding thing, has got him really down. I hope Clara turns up for his sake at least." I stated. "I know... but about the guests, do you think we should tell them to leave? I mean, if she turns up they'll probably just re-schedule anyway, right?" Shane asked. I thought of the possibilities to that. "Ya, I guess so. Look, you go back over to the seats and tell everyone that there shall be no wedding until further notice, I'm going to try contact Clara." My voice directed as i shooed him towards the doors, "But what do i say? What if I get asked questions?" he begged. "Questions?" I repeated, "Shane, you're a pop-star, for Christ's sake! You'll think of something! You get asked loads of questions a day! Just use what little imagination you have up there in that ugly head of yours." I teased. I saw the look on his face and added, "Just kidding!" with a lopsided smile before making my way back to the girls' dressing room. "Mel's! It's you! What's happening with everything, Kian and Clara and all? Is she here yet? Do we need to get ready? What..." "Chill out Amy! Catch your breath... and no she's not here yet." I laughed as I was attacked by questions as I walked in. "Oh well then, do you think it's safe to leave? I mean we've been here ages and Ki and Clara's parents came by and said we could leave since they were leaving and..." "Ya, I guess so. Well I guess I'll see you later than, eh?" I asked as I positioned myself in a comfy chair. "Ok! Come on Esther, let's get goin!" Amy shouted as she made her way out the door. Esther ran over and gave me a hug, "Now you make sure you tell us if anything happens now. ok? I feel bad for Ki, but there's nothing we can do to help him now, it's all up to Clara's jitters!" she added with a laugh as she grabbed her purse. "Oh, and I hope you don't mind but we're gonna still or men on the way out." Amy added. I smiled as they squeezed out the door out the same time and made a mad dash to find their "men". 'Hmmm..." I thought as I moved around in the chair. The door opened and I looked up, anticipating a certain female form to enter the room, but it wasn't. "Hey Mark!" I greeted him with a smile. "Hi." He replied as he gave me a quick kiss, "I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to head home now because I'm kinda tired, you know how I am, and I just wanted to ask if you wanted to come with me..." Mark said as he held me tight. "I'm sorry, but I think I'm going to stay here a while longer, help Kian out, clean up, see if Clara comes..." "Ok I get the idea." He interrupted, "See you at home, and before I forget, Shane and Vikki are going to stay behind to help so they'll probably give you a lift home, if not, call me and I'll drive by." He got up and gave me a quick kiss as he said this. "Bye!" I called after as he walked out the door. I slumped in the chair and thought for a while. I could only imagine what Kian was going through. Poor guy, he was so into her, it was almost sickening. I picked up my phone and tried to call Clara... no answer. I sighed and placed it back in my bag. I got up and went into the adjoining bathroom to wash off my make-up and change into my extra clothes. I just beginning to wash my face when I heard a scream, I quickly dried my face and raced out the door to make sure Kian hadn't just done anything terrible to himself. "Oh My God!" Vikki yelped and ran towards the form. I quickened my pace to see what was happening. "Clara!" I cried as I gave her a quick hug. She HAD turned up and now I figured everything was going to be ok. Shane gave Vikki and I a look and we quickly disappeared out the door. "Oh I'm so glad that's over with!" Shane sighed. Clara and Kian were still in the back room... making up, I should say. We all sat outside waiting for their instructions on what they wanted to do, what was happening. I excused myself to the bathroom so I could finish getting changed. My reflection but I felt different, relieved I guess. Relieved she had come, relieved that Kian wasn't the source of the scream... well let's just say very happy about it all. I hoped they would make up, I knew they would make up. Well, I guess this day had turned out well, I smiled at my reflection and pulled my hair back into a neater bun. I checked once more and walked back out of the door. "Um... guys... I think I'm gonna go over there, ok?" I said quickly when I found Shane and Vikki connected. I got no response so I figured that, that meant ok or something. I sat patiently in the chair and pulled out my phone so I could play the game that was on it. I soon got bored and canceled mid-way through my 38th try. Hmm... I looked around the unchanged room and thought of how beautiful it was. Beautiful, as Mark called me... I picked up the phone and dialed the familiar number. The phone ringed a while and then went to the messages, 'That's odd' I thought, 'Mark usually has his phone on him.' I slid the phone back into it's pocket and lounged back into the cushion of the chair. There was a knock on the door and I woke up. "Hey, we came to say good bye." Clara said. I looked at them puzzled, "Huh?" I asked. "Oh, Clara booked us at this small hotel on this place on one of the other islands... form what I here it's lovely." Kian filed in. I nodded, I had an idea where they were planning on going... 'Probably Lana'i' I concluded. That had been the place Clara always dreamed of having her wedding there. "Aww well good luck to you on your wedding! I hope this ones more successful this time!" I laughed. "Me too..." Clara whispered and Kian gave her a quick kiss. I coughed, this was only making me miss Mark more. They caught my drift and separated and Clara grabbed her dress from the closet. "Well I guess this is good bye for now." I said as I hugged both of them. "Ya... guess so." Clara replied, I hugged her again then reached for Kian, "Thanks Mei." He whispered in my ear. "No problem." I whispered back. I watched as they happily walked out of the church and into Clara's car. I waved them off as I watched them drive into the distance, becoming smaller with every second. When they were gone I plopped down on the steps, waiting for any sounds that would indicate Shane and Vikki. It was pretty quiet so I got a bit worried... I got up and headed for the door, to grab my stuff before then church shut down. I re-entered the hallway with my bag and started to call out for Shane and Vikki. No answer. I walked back outside and into the parking lot. 'The car was gone!' I sighed. I grabbed for my phone and decided to call Mark, remembering his promise from earlier that day. I called and listened to the message of the phone's message box. I felt my heart drop, now realizing I had no ride home. I picked up my bags and boarded the bus, yes the bus! It was my only way to get home and I wasn't too happy that this was the way I would get home.First an almost canceled wedding, a no-show ride, and now public transportation to get home! I fumed silently in my seat, occasionally glancing awkwardly at the blue-haired man besides me. I shivered and looked out the window. Oh was I going to give Mark a talking-to about leaving on your phone! 'Well almost there.' I thought as I strolled down the street to his house. The children outside stopped to stare at me, It had started to rain and my face and body were dripping wet. I walked down further, I neared the house and could almost feel the warmth from the home surrounding me. I trudged up the stairs and tried to dry off the best I could before putting my key in to open the door. I looked around at what I said and felt my face go pale. |
