| Part 7 (Shane) Bryan just sat there unable to move, or do anything, I think he went into shock, I couldn't believe it, I had spoken to her earlier that day, now.....now she was gone, forever. I wondered how Bryan would cope, how the kids would cope, losing their mother while they were so young, too young to understand fully I guess. Suddenly, he stood up, and walked out, I followed him. He walked back into Jessica's room, and sat beside her bed. He never said anything, just sobbed quietly. I didn't know if I should call the other lads let them know, I guess they deserved an explanation of why we had rushed off. I decided noto to call yet, but called Carrie, my wife. "Hello?" "It's Shane." "Shane?! Where the hell are you? The lads have been phoning all day for you, said you walked out.." "Yeah, umm, Carrie, I've got to tell you something." "What? Shane, are you ok?" "We, uh, we lost Ally today, I'm at the hospital with Bryan and Jess." "What, oh my god, you're kidding." "No, there was some sort of accident." I whispered, my voice cracking. "How is Bryan? Was he involved? Oh god. What about little Jess?" "Bryan's fine, in shock, Jess has ummm," I tried to remember, my mind was a mess, "cuts and bruises, but they're keeping her in because she's got a head injury, she's sleeping." "Have you called the others?" "No." "Will I call?" She asked, now crying. "Umm, no, I'll talk to Bryan, and then I'll call." "I'll come down to the hospital." "Don't, you can't do anything, it's ok, I'll stay here just now." "Ok, I'll see you later, bye." "Bye." I hung up the phone and wandered back into Jessica's room, she was awake, and crying for Ally. "Jess, hun, Mummy's not here." But she wouldn't listen to Bryan, slowly, still sobbing, she fell back asleep. "Shane, what am I going to do? I can't look after the kids, alone." "You're not alone in this, ok. We;ll all help, anytime." " I don't understand this." He looked up, frowning. "I can't either, I just, I don't know what to say." I sighed. "Will I call the others?" I offered. He nodded, "your parents?" He nodded again. I walked out to the payphone. How would I put this? These people had known Ally for 7 years now, how would they take it? I picked up the phone, and dialled Nicky's number. "Hello, Nicky Byrne." "It's Shane." "Finally he calls! What the hell happened earlier, you can't just do that! Tell Bry as well! Lou wants you guys in his office first thing tomorrow." He sounded really annoyed. "Well, Lou can wait. I was phoning to let you guys know what happened." I didn't return the sarcastic attutude, I had no energy left to argue. "Well?" "There was an accident earlier...Ally and Jess...""Are they ok?" "Nicky, Ally's gone." "What?!" "Yeah. Could you call the others, let them know. I'm at the hospital with Bry now." "Sure," and in shock, he hung up the phone. I sat down on the chair beside the phone, thinking about how to to tell Bryan's parents. Since the breakup, Ally, Bryan and his parents hadn't really been on speaking terms. They couldn't understand how they could split up when they had two children. I slowly dialled their number, it was only 7o'clock, so I figured they'd be watching tv or something. "Hello?" Bryan's dad. "Hi, it's Shane." "How are you son, and that wife of yours too?" "We're both fine." "That's good to hear, what can I do for you Shane?" "Umm, well, ok, I'm at the hospital , with Bryan and Jess..." I started, still trying to find my next sentence. "Hospital, is Jess ok?" "Ukmm, well, yes and no, there was an accident...." "Accident, oh God, Shane, anyone hurt?" "Yeah, umm, Jess is ok, but Ally..." "Ally was hurt too?" "She died." "Oh my God." He whispered, "but, but-" "Yeah, could you guys come down to see Bryan?" "We're on our way Shane, thanks for calling." "I'll see you when you get here." And I hung up. I walked back into the room, Bryan was still sitting on the chair, still sobbing quietly, Jess still sleeping. I didn't know if I should stay in the room with them, or maybe wait outside. I decided to sit outside and wait for Bryan's parents to arrive. I buried my head in my hands, trying to take this all in. Earlier today, I had spoken to her, she had confided to me that she thought that maybe if things went well on the tour, that maybe her and Bryan would give it another go, I guess now we would never know. Suddenly someone tapped my shoulder, it was Bryan's dad. I looked up, Bryan's mum stood behimd him, still crying. It was obvious from his face that Bryan's dad had been crying too. "Shane, what-what happened?" He asked, still shocked. "Ummm, from what Bryan has said, I think a car hit them when they were trying to cross the road." "Bryan was there?" His dad sounded surprised. "They were together?" "No, Bryan was at an interview with me and the others, he was talking to her on the mobile. He heard it all." "Oh my God, how is he?" His mum asked. "I- I don't know. He's in there with Jess." I said, and pointed to the room where they were. "Is Jess ok?" I nodded, "yeah, cuts and bruises mostly, she was sleeping when I left them." "Should we go in?" His Dad asked me, I nodded my head, this wasn't a time for him to be alone. They slowly walked into see them. |
