| Part 23 (mark) I walked back downstairs, while the paramedics moved Bryan to the ambulance. Robyn never left his side through the whole thing, maybe they were serious. "What's wrong with Daddy?" Jess asked, looking towards the door. "Is he sick?" "Just a bit, he's got to go to hospital for now." "How bad is he?" Michelle asked quietly. I just shook my head. "God." "Look, ummm, will you take the kids back to ours for now?" I asked her. "I want to go and see if he's ok...." I looked at her. "Ok." She sighed. "I just don't want to upset them anymore than we have to." "Yeah, I guess." She looked at them both, still sitting in their pajamas, quietly. "Ok, kids, go on upstairs and we'll get u guys ready and you can come to our house for a while, ok?" "Ok." Dylan said, and stood up. "Come on Jess." And they both walked upstairs. "Are you going to the hospital in the ambulance?" She asked me, I nodded. "Ok, phone me as soon as there's any news. I'll keep the kids at home for now,ok?" "Yeah, thanks Shell. You're a star." I kissed her on the forehead, and ran back out to the ambulance. We sat nervously in the ambulnace, watching the medics as they tried to keep him in the land of the living. I think Robyn was in shock, she didn't speak, just stared. "He's going to be ok." I told her. "He will be. He's got to be." The last part was a whisper. The ambulance pulled up and we follwed them inside. "You'll have to wait here." The doctor told us. "Ok." I said. "Come on Robyn." She followed me over to the seats and we sat down. "Right, what happened this morning?" "Ummm, he got the test results through. They said that Jess wasn't his. He just, pushed me away and I said something I maybe shouldn't have." "What did you say?" "That it wasn't my fault, it wasn't me who cheated. He just defended Ally." She explained. "I'm sure it wasn't just that that made him go. I think we just never realised how much this had affected him." "I shouldn't have left him alone, if he dies..."she sighed, and started to cry. "It's not your fault, ok?" I told her. "Look, I'm going to call Shell, see how the kids are. Tell her to call the other guys." "Ok. I'll wait here, in case there's any news." I walked over to the payphone, and called. Michelle said that she would call the others and let them know. I walked back over to the seats, just as a doctor came out of Bryan's room. I ran over. "How is he?" "He's stable, for now. We're moving him up to intensive care." "He's going to be ok?" I asked. "Well, the next 48 hours or so are critical. He could pull through, or....." He never finished. "You can see him later today." "Thanks." I walked back over to the seats, Robyn was still sitting down. "Hey, you ok?" I asked her, she was really pale. "Yeah, just can't believe this." Kian came running down the hall. "Mark, what's going on. I got some jumbled message about Bryan being here. Is he ok?!" "Umm...I better explain." Just then Robyn stood up. "I'm going to get a drink of water." But she just crashed to the floor. "Robyn? Mark, get a doctor." Kian said. "Come on Robyn." By the time I returned with a doctor, she was awake and sitting on a seat again. "Ok, miss, I think we should have a look at you." The doctor said. "I'm fine, just stressing." She laughed. "We don't need you in intensive care too, go with the doctor." I said, Kian looked shocked, guess now he realised how serious Bryan was. "Ok." She sighed, and followed the doctor. "Right Mark, what's going on? How bad is he? Tell me the truth!" Kian said, panicking. "Man, I don't know where to start...." "Well, what is wrong with Bryan?" "He took an overdose, tried to...." I couldn't say it. "What?! Why?!" He cried, looking shocked. "Ummm....god." "Mark, tell me!" "Ok, you know how Dylan isn't his." He nodded slowly. "Well, it turns out that Jess is Derek's too." He opened his mouth to ask something, I stopped him. "Don't ask me how, I don't know." "So, does Derek want her too?" "I don't know. I didn't speak to Bryan today. Robyn called me after-" "Yeah. How is he?" He asked, sighing. "He-ummm- he might or might not make it." We sat in silence for a few minutes, then Robyn walked back over towards us. "You ok?" Kian asked her. "Yeah, doctor took blood, going to do some tests. I told him I was just tired and stressed, but he wants to check." "Dyl and Jess are a real handful, huh?" Kian laughed. "Yeah." She smiled. "You don't have to tell me twice. Ive looked after them before. Little monsters." We all laughed a little. "They don't deserve this. I can't believe he would do this, after all they've been through." " from what you said, I don't think he's being himself just now." Kian sighed, standing up. "I'm going to call Shell, see how the kids are." I walked back over to the payphone, and dialled. "Any news?" She asked. "They can't say if he's going to be ok. How are the kids?" "A handful. They know something's wrong, Mark, what will I tell them?" "Just that he's sick. That's all." "Is Robyn going to come and get them later?" "Umm..probably not. She's not too well." I explained. "Oh, Mark, I've got a busy week ahead, I don't know if I can look after them until she's better.it's not that I don't want to help-" "I know. I was thinking maybe we should tell Derek that Bry's here, let him take care of them, they're his kids-" "Kids?" "Umm..oops, kid." I covered up. "Mark, is there something you're not telling me?" "I'll explain later." "Ok." She sighed. "I'll see you when you come home then. Will you call him then?" "I'll talk to Robyn first." "Yeah. See you. Hold on Mark." "Yeah?" "Bye Uncle Mark!!" Jess had taken the phone, my heart broke. I prayed they wouldn't lose their Dad too. "Bye Jess." She hung up the phone. |
