Part 16 (Mark)
I sat at the table, wishing I hadn't given Bryan hard time the night before. Kian came walking back over. "Hey, what's wrong with Bryan?" He asked, sitting down again. "Has he been crying?" He looked back at the table where Bryan sat with Dylan on his knee. "Is it to do with Robyn?"
"In a way, but it's more the kids." I explained. "And Derek." "What?" He was confused, "what's Derek got to do with anything?" It was weird, we all saw Dylan as Bryan's even though we all knew he wasn't.
"He, uh, he wants Dylan." I said, and looked over.
Sitting at the table, the kids looked really happy and
Bryan and Robyn were trying to keep things together
for their sake.
"God, he doesn't." I nodded my head.
"Yeah, that'swhat me and Bryan were talking about."
"But he can't do that, can he?" I shrugged my shoulders. "Geez, no wonder Bryan's upset." "I know. I hope that he doesn't lose him, it'd destroy him. How can Derek do this to him? He wouldn't have did that if Ally was still here." I sighed and it was true, Derek had been happy with things until then. "I don't believe this." Kian said quietly.
"I don't think Bryan can either. Derek just dropped
this on him last night." I explained, remembering last night. We looked back over at the table, Dylan being his usual lively self had just knocked over a glass of orange juice, soaking himself and Bryan in the process.
"DYLAN!!" Bryan shouted. "LOOK WHAT YOU DID!" "I didn't mean it." He said innocently. "You're soaked. Come on, I'll get you changed." Bryan said still angry. "No!"  "Dylan, come on, now!" "I don't want to go with you. You shouted at me." He cried, sniffing a little, trying not to cry.
"Fine." Bryan said. "I'm going to get changed." And he stood up and walked upstairs, leaving Dylan standing, crying a little.
"Hmmmm... That was a little bit OTT." Shane commented, Nicky nodded his head in agreement. Robyn just looked at me and Kian because we knew what was behind the outburst.
"Maybe I should go and see if he's ok." She offered, looking towards the stair, and then looking at me for advice. "I don't know, maybe he need time out." I said. "Well, maybe one of us should go up there, just to see...." Kian started.
" Yeah." I looked over at Dylan. "Come on you, let's get you changed." I put my hand out, he took it and we went upstairs. We got to Bryan's room and I quietly knocked on the door.
"Just a second!" He called, "who is it?" "It's me and Dylan. He's up to get changed." Then the door opened, Bryan stood with a towel, drying his face, trying to hide the fact that he had been crying.
"Hey Dyl, come on in. What trousers do you want on now?"  Dylan just stood at the door, staring at Bryan, a little scared. "Come on, it's ok."  Dylan still stood there, Bryan's face filled with hurt and regret. "On you go." I half pushed him in the door. "I want my blue trousers on." He said quietly. "Ok, I'll dig them out. They're in here somewhere, I think." Bryan laughed a little, and walked over to the wardrobe. Dylan walked over and sat on the bed. "Dylan, don't. You're still wet!" I called to him, Bryan turned around. "Dylan! Get off of there!"  Bryan shouted, Dylan jumped up. "Come on, here are your trousers." Bryan said, quietly.
"I don't like you." Dylan sobbed, "you shouted at me, Derek doesn't shout at me." "Dylan, go over to your dad."
"He's not my dad, he's mean." At that Bryan dropped the trousers he had been holding, covered his mouth with his hand, eyes watering, and walked out of the room. Dylan stood sobbing and confused. I walked over and picked up the trousers.
"Come on, go and put these on." "Ok." He replied, "uncle Mark?" I looked at him. "Is Daddy really mad at me? I didn't mean to make him angry."
"I know. you get changed, I'm just going to talk to Daddy, ok?" He nodded and I walked out. I saw Bryan sitting on the floor, his head hanging down. "Bryan?" He looked up, sighing heavily. "I messed that up, didn't I?" I sat down next to him.
"Big bad Daddy versus Nice Quiet Derek. He won't have to take him, Dyl would jump at the chance to be away from me right now."
"That's not true, he just got a fright, you kinda lost it there Bry." I said.
"I know, things just got to me, I shouldn't take it out on Dylan, it's not his fault." Just then Dylan came out of te room, he had stopped crying and was changed into clean trousers.
"Hey trouble." Bryan sniffed, and stood up. "Coming back downstairs then?" Dylan nodded, excitedly, "can I have a piggyback? Please?" "Sure thing!" Bryan smiled. "Come on." And we went back downstairs.
