sweet

allow me to sing the praises of matthew sweet.

 mister matthew sweet

if i were single and matthew sweet were single and we lived next door to each other, i would make him dinner at least three times a week. and i mean real dinner, with a salad and a meat [unless he's a vegetarian] and a starch and a vegetable and a nice dessert. afterwards, i'd make a fresh pot of coffee and serve it to him in the living room while i let him choose what we would watch on the television or listen to on the stereo. i'd even wash all the dishes before i went home.

if i were single and matthew sweet were single and he wrote me a song, i would be deliriously happy and grateful and i would treasure it forever and ever amen even if i was the only person ever to hear it and i would never inspire him to write a subsequent song with lyrics like:

why don't you write your own song
if mine doesn't do it for you
you might get it all wrong
or you might create the hit
you wish that i would write for you
write your own song/in reverse/matthew sweet
matthew sweet's in reverse album cover

if i were single and matthew sweet were single and i owned a tshirt shop, i would make for him a white tshirt with a green silk screen that said power pop prodigy.

even though i'm not single and matthew sweet may or may not be single, whenever he releases a new album, i listen to it obsessively for at least three weeks, until it is firmly ingrained in the whorls of my brain and i can summon it for mental replay at will. it's rather nice having a matthew sweet jukebox in my head.

all sweetness, claire
