the sound

favorite sounds:

the sound of rain on the roof of the car when driving. and as a distinct subset of that, the sudden silence from said sound whenever you drive under a bridge or overpass.

at least one ten second passage on every r.e.m. album ever made. i of course cannot think of a single specific example just at the moment and all the cds are at home, but on each and every album, somewhere in the middle of at least one of the songs, is a short piece of music that i think is just about perfect.

the way peter parker purrs with his mouth half open. i call them breathy purrs.

lightening.

wind in trees.

jellybeans hitting the silver candy dish on my coffee table.

water. just about any sort of moving water. waterfalls, rivers, oceans, faucets--running, not dripping, fountains, peter parker lapping at his water bowl.

a small break in the action

i'm looking out the window of my office, down to the freeway below.

there is a huge convoy of construction trucks -- you know, the kind that have a cab, then a carrying bin then a really long bar attachment thing and then another carrying bin -- all pulled off to the side of the road just prior to one of the exits.

there are at least sixteen that i can see, but no police officer, so i am guessing they weren't all speeding along.

oh, one of them just drove up the exit ramp and the others moved up a space. they must be pacing themselves so the morning commuters aren't overwhelmed with all the mighty truckness entering the city at once.
