the state of claire

did i say i'd be gone a few days?

obviously, i'm a big fat liar.

the small family emergency is still small and is no longer an emergency but it does still require quite a bit of my time. just in case you were wondering, my mother has a herniated disc near the base of her spine and it has virtually paralyzed her. at first we feared it was a tumour but that fear has been put to rest. thank the heavens, i am just not up for dealing with any more cancer in my world.

it is my job to make her rest; honestly, i just about have to sit on the woman to get her to slow down. and when not sitting on her, i have to make her do the strengthening exercises that may correct the problem; we are desperately trying to avoid surgery. she is stretching and bitching, in about equal measure, but she is making an effort to be a good mother.

both she and my father are staying here with gene and i until it gets a little better. they were planning to go home straight from their vacation in europe but thought they could get better medical care here than in the middle of nowhere. it was a good theory too; the doctor here gave her advice that was completely opposite that of the doctor she saw in europe and the local doctor's stuff has made a marked difference in my mother's mobility.

any minute now she is going to feel well enough that i shall have to rent a scooter just to keep up with her.

a small break in the action

apparently this new design looks like hell in netscape, but no one saw fit to tell me until yesterday.

i went to all the entries with pictures and hopefully they are no longer obscuring the text. i also added some pictorial entries for all the days i have missed this month; i just couldn't bear seeing those nonlinked days in the archive calendar. obsessive? me?

i'll try and write again tomorrow, but no promises. i hate breaking promises.

back in black and white, claire
