i appear to be reverting to childhood ways.

i mean there is that whole ubiquitous overalls things, the little flower and butterfly clips in the hair, the red licorice sparkly lip gloss, not to mention the fascination with babe the sheep pig. then there is the inane cutsey couple's language that gene and i seem to be developing, in spite of ourselves; we were chattering along the other day in the supermarket for about five minutes before i realized the other people in the aisle were looking at us strangely [umm, honey, we don't really need coffee filters, let's just let those strange people talking babytalk have this aisle all to themselves].

but the biggest thing of late is the peanut butter and jelly craze.

i can honestly say i went for years without eating peanut butter, other than as an ingredient in a variety of peanut sauces [my favorite being thai but west african is a close second]. as a child, i ate it constantly, chunky style, with jam or jelly on cheap squishy white bread, always with the crusts on, i was never one of those trimmed crusts children. then, a couple of weeks ago, we were in the grocery, probably babbling babytalk, when gene grabbed a giant jar of jif off the shelf, exclaiming, "peanut butter! i've been missing this!"

you know what? i'd been missing it too, i just hadn't realized it. i still eat it on squishy white bread but for some reason the bread must now be toasted, which completely kills the squishiness. i also switched to smooth from the chunky variety because the little crunchies were driving me mad; i used to love the peanut pieces but i suppose it is one of those age things, somewhat like me loving asparagus now while hating it as a child.

and oddly enough, it has become a breakfast food. pbj on toast at six in the morning. yummy.

i watched the season finale of the awful truth last night.

i just adore michael moore, little tubby dork that he is, out there rubbing the facts in the faces of all the corporate facemen. last night he took a laidoff autoworker to mexico to get a job with the company that laid him off. listening to the company's rep repeat over and over again that not one united states job was lost to mexico and watching the face of the laid off worker whilst this spouting was going on was priceless.

feeling pretty smooth, but still a little bit chunky, claire
