reading assignment
i haven't updated the library list in a couple of weeks.
it's not that i'm not reading, because i can't live without it, absolutely must read every single night before i go to sleep. rather, i am going through one mother of a lazy period, where i get by with the bare minimum. that means new entries, but no link updating. i am keeping a list of everything i've read though, and i'll try and update the main library page one of these days soon.
so what should you be reading?
the latest issue of interview magazine [july 1999]. there is an incredibly thought provoking article by camille paglia about the recent spat of school shootings. never one to tow the party line, she has her own theories about why this phenomena is on the rise.
mandatory high school? she says out with it. also says violent video games do not cause violent behaviour but are rather flocked to by boys who need to escape the white bread mundanity of the homogenized high school experience. she wants more history taught, less suppression of the mightily masculine [which boys need to transition from boyhood to manhood in lieu of that whole menstruation thing we girls have going], and thinks the nuclear family is an unhealthy construct.
obviously i am simplifying her arguments so i suggest you read it if you are at all interested in a different point of view from that which has been most expressed within the media.
