1999 june 23late
i just woke up and i am so late as to be embarrassing.
i am attributing this lateness to a restless night full of dreams wherein charles bukowski turned out to have been the author of ulee's gold and i was hiding under a bed with three other people in order to surprise some friends of ours with that and other news i can no longer remember. the worst thing though, is i woke with david soul in my head, singing don't give up on us baby. where the hell do these things come from? why does this song, which i am sure i haven't heard since it was first released, sit in the dark corners of my mind waiting to pop out 20 years later?
in other related news, the cat has a new theme song. peter parker has a new annoying habit. he walks all over me, literally. jumps on the chair, makes like he is going to sit on my lap then walks up and down my body, over the chest up across the shoulders, down across the lap to the end of the knees back again... he does it at night too, just before i fall asleep and then again in the middle of the night if he thinks he is deserving of a 2 a.m. snack. gene and i actually went to bed at the same time the other night and as peter parker was doing this walking trick, gene started singing, "these paws are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do, every single night these paws are gonna walk all over you." it is now referred to as the nancy maneuver. we're still worth one more try, claire
