new computer! new computer!

i am beyond pathetic. rather than buy all the pieces and put the thing together myself, thereby getting exactly what i wanted at a lower cost, i instead just grabbed a nice boxed set from the store. It is fully loaded with all manner of bells and whistles and, most importantly, a 56k modem. i am luxuriating in the fast connection over here. pages load quickly! i can have multiple pages opening at the same time with little deleterious effect on the rest of the computer! i can hear real audio and see real video! glory hallelujah!!

the downside is getting the bloody thing set up the way i like; trying to find all the programs i have disks for, not to mention all the share/freeware i had accumulated, is about to drive me nuts. i need to network the old computer together with the new computer before the former dies a painful death -- there is no way i can move everything over on floppy disk after floppy disk after nine million floppy disks.

proactive moment: it has a port, on the front, to plug in a digital camera. i will have one before the year is out or i will throw one mother of a tantrum.

not content to support the national economy in this way alone, i also went appliance shopping.

voila! new washer and new dryer. giant capacity nonetheless. i don't really need a large capacity set but they weren't much more expensive than the smaller size and i had visions of washing rag rugs. sure enough, i washed the hall runner, all 8'x2' of it, yesterday and it went through with no problems.

i don't know exactly when i developed the fascination for watching washing machines go about their business, but develop it i did. i spent at least an hour yesterday with the washer lid up, watching the happy little agitator chug up and down while twisting just a little. the clothes would float up on the outside edges of the tub only to be caught in the current and dragged back under near the cylinder. green tshirt visible, not visible, pink towel visible, not visible, water barely gray, water dark gray. damn but those were some filthy loads of clothes.

you'd think that would have been enough for my pocketbook, but no.

i have a dentist appointment this afternoon and the hygienist has been after me for a year to get one of those new sonic toothbrushes. she is of the opinion it will keep my gums happy and healthy and with all the problems i have with my teeth, i figured it would be a good investment.

it is great fun, makes my face tingle and my teeth chatter and damned if they don't feel all shiny and happy afterwards. the gums just look pink, but i guess that's what happy gums look like so they're getting in on the fun as well.

maybe i won't get a lecture from her today.
