1999 may 24the 9 billion shades of god
driving hither and yon this weekend, and puttering around in my porch garden, i was once again amazed at how many shades of green there are in the world.
gene and i started talking about it and somehow managed to bring that 9 billion names of god short story into the conversation. maybe the world will end when we discover all the colors, which to me are a truer manifestation of that which created this world than any ordinary name might be. which do you think sounds better, buddha or chartreuse? the short hard, god or the rich trips-off-your-tongue emerald? i'll have to stick with the greens myself; i'd much rather see something described as verdant than holy. the plants on the porch are doing well. i'm not sure i've given the onions enough room to become onions, but at the very least i will have some nice chive-like things from the tops. the valerian is looking like it wants to bloom as do the two scented geraniums, the hydrangea and the greek myrtle; little buds are sprouting everywhere. the chamomile is running amok and i think it may need a bigger pot sooner than later, although it seems pretty happy at the moment.
friday, i found a major bug in the latest version of our product, the day after its official release. luckily, they had only burned the cds, not shipped them, so the programmers were able to fix it before we all looked like complete idiots. you'd think they might have said thank you, but all i heard were grumbles and more grumbles and quite frankly, all the little geekly boys annoyed me mightily. i had very little to do with this release, as my pieces of the puzzle were revised separately and are shipped out as needed, and with my task list i am unable to spend hours banging against a supposedly solid product when we have an entire test department for that. it's not my fault i found the bug, damnit! it's theirs for having it. serene in my green garden, not so serene at the office, claire
