1999 april 29burn, baby, burn
i appear to have a subconscious desire to commit death by scalding.
tuesday evening i made myself a pot of decaf. we were almost out of cream so i poured the coffee into the cream carton, to make sure i got it all out. great plan until it slipped from my hand, landed on the counter, bounced and then splashed hot coffee across my midriff. i immediately ripped off the overalls and pulled my tshirt and underwear away from my skin but the pale winter flesh was already a bright cardinal red. luckily it faded within the hour although it was tender to the touch even the next morning. so that morning, yesterday, i obviously didn't have any cream and decided to wait until i arrived at the office for my coffee. all the communal cups were in the sink, dirty, so i grabbed one and pushed the ultrahot button to rinse it out. instead of the water flowing out smoothly from the tap, it spurted in a giant fit of spray, all over my hand. had to drop the cup and run the cold water over it but once again, my poor flesh was all red. i'm sticking with iced tea today.
in other news from yesterday, i had the most brilliant thought as i was walking to work, the sort that makes you stop and say, "of course!" and you immediately imagine all the adulation you will receive once the world reads your thought and all the wondrous writing awards you will be awarded after the literati of the world read how eloquently you have put the thought into print, and all the thought lacked was a piece of paper and a pen to start this new wondrous life but i scalded myself with the hot water before making it to my desk so there you have it. i'm sure the world is poorer for it
hotter than ever, claire
