1999 january 25 lazythere are days my absolute and utter laziness astounds even myself.despite my inherent aversion to the way it wiggles in my mouth, i have been on a bit of a jello binge of late and felt the need to make yet another bowl of the lime variety yesterday afternoon. i grabbed the bowl from the dishwasher, the package of jello from the cupboard and the measuring cup from the drawer. there was already water in the kettle so i put it on to boil. no problems so far. poured the water into the jello, whisked it for the recommended two minutes then turned to get the cold water from the tap. and there the problem arose. there were dishes in the sink, a lot of dishes since we hadn't cleaned them in a couple of days, and they were stacked in such a way i could not fit the cup completely under the tap to get the cold water; i could fill it part way by holding it at an angle, but not all the way to the top. did i put down the measuring cup so i could move some dishes aside? no. did i at least jostle some of the dishes around giving me an extra inch under the tap? nope. what did i do? i cupped my hand under the tap, filled my palm with water and splashed it into the measuring cup until it was full. i should be taken out and shot.
i received a call from a recruiter at the office on friday. i've never been called before and the whole thing has made me decidedly nervous. while i am not particularly happy at my current place of employment, i do know the system and there is a small hope things will change drastically in the next three months. i would hate to finally bail on the place, leaving behind the bulk of my not yet vested stock options, just to see it finally take off and make everyone who stayed millionaires. the other thing, of course, is my absolute hatred of the whole interview process. couple this with faltering self esteem, at least as far as job skills go, and you have a recipe for disaster. i have stayed at more than one job past the point most would have run screaming just because it was preferable to job hunting and interviewing. obviously the job hunting part is removed from the cycle what with the recruiter doing it but still, there is that interview. actually, at least two interviews: with him, and with the company he recruits for. it's enough to give a girl the shivers. it's probably a good opportunity. if i weren't so lazy, i'd return his call. amazed she has overcome her laziness to type this entry, claire home - < previous < - > next > - archives |
