1998 november 19 the tubemay you always have stables of horses to service your needs. there really is no reason for the preceding, it just makes me giggle. my mind is truly in the gutter most of the time. i consider it an asset. ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ with that lead in, it will be impossible to smoothly segue into wittiness or profundity, so i won't even bother. instead i will give you mini-reviews of the things i have been watching this week. videosi can't sleep: the box said engrossing murder mystery. ummmmm, no. the box said manages to evoke wenders. ummmm, no, again. it was, however, a pleasantly odd little film that i sat all the way through, idly speculating as to which character, if any, might be the murderer. the whole serial killer part of the film was so underplayed, though, i wasn't exactly on the edge of my seat. desolation angels: a completely useless film that has apparently won some major awards. it is dark, the characters are not well developed, the plot predictable, no one in the film earned my respect, my hatred or my interest. it also indulges in one of my pet peeves -- there is voiceover action and flashback action about the main character's family but instead of giving him some depth, it is more like info thrown in so you can pass a pop quiz in nick's life 101. it doesn't add to him, explain him, motivate him. it is totally superfluous to the movie. the quiet room: as much as the book the everlasting story of nory annoyed me in its attempts to capture a young girl, this movie charmed me. her thoughts were my thoughts at that age, her attempts to manipulate her parents were ones i tried. she was much better at it than i, however; i could never shut up long enough to make the silent treatment a truly effective maneuver. televisionmonday night football: i hate the denver broncos. i have therefore been irritated not only this week, but all season. i rarely feel passionately about anything sports related but i desperately hope that someone defeats mr. ed and the horses before season's end. just shoot me: i don't watch too many sitcoms these days but there is something about enrico colantoni; i even liked him when he was playing a total dolt on hope and gloria. i cannot explain it, therefore i will just shut up. x-files:it's so nice to see there are people in the world more obsessive than i. i just wish my obsessions were more interesting. unlike mulder, i doubt next week i will be entangled with nazis on a ship in the bermuda triangle. more likely, i will be rolling dishtowels into little cylinders and watching the morning weather shows. the impeachment hearings: yes, i am a glutton for punishment. thinking she should get out more often, claire home - < previous - next > - archives |
