Recommendations:
Thoroughly proof-read any fiction you intend to send. Beta-readers are plentiful.
The Library of Moria offers a Beta-Readers
Index for Lord of the Rings writers. Also many mailing lists allow you
to seek a beta-reader on-list. If you cannot find a beta, I am willing to
beta for you. (I am or will soon be listed on the Beta Index at LoM.) Also,
please send text files that have word wrap and if your story would normally
contain italics or bold, don't forget to find a way to indicate those to your
readers.
Headers:
I require headers on fics sent to me. If they do not contain a header, I do
not load them. Headers are important folks, they tell the reader things they
need to know before they read. (This will look a lot like the header indication
at The Library of Moria, but
this is the format I've used for many a year.)

Ratings:
Since this is the general rating system used in fic writing, this
is the rating system I shall use. It's the American system ("This movie
is rated PG-13, contains some violence and explicit language, viewer disgression
is advised." type deal)
G - Everyone can read. Fluffy stuff and general-ness.
PG - Kissing and implications. Safe and clean. Think Romeo and Juliet.
Violence and swearing, but not heavy.
PG-13 - Sexual thoughts and making out (to use LoM's example). Stronger
violence and language.
R - Sex, nothing graphic but sex. And any graphic violence falls under
this rating.
NC-17 - What my friend calls "porn"... which does not necessarily
make all NC-17's porn... no, but you know when your fic is an NC... Mommie's
cover your children's eyes, it's Showgirls gone wild. ::chuckles:: You get
the picture.
Warnings:
Remember warnings let your readers know what they should expect and can avoid
it if they don't want to view it. Non-cannon character death, Non-consentual
sex, Rape, that lot. What are some of these warnings?
Non-con - non-consentual situations... attempted rape, non-consumated forced sexual activity.
Rape - consumated forced sexual activity.
Incest - people related by blood in romantic or sexual relationships.
BDSM - Bondage, slave/master, that sort of thing.
Character death - as I said above, you need to indicate this if you kill someone who is not killed in the story.
MPreg - male pregnancy. Simple as that.
