FAQ

What is Hypercallumania?

Okay, let's start with the basics.  According to Blakiston's Illustrated Pocket Medical Dictionary (2nd edition), mania is defined as "excessive enthusiasm or excitement; a violent desire or passion" and hypermania is defined as "an advanced maniacal state; a mania which has progressed beyond the acute stage" (i.e. it is now chronic).

Therefore, Hypercallumania is simply a chronic and advanced condition marked by excessive enthusiasm, excitement, and passion associated with Canadian actor Callum Keith Rennie.  (Please note, you are free to interpret the term "passion" whichever way you wish).

Do I have Hypercallumania?

Well, if you're actually bothering to read this, then I'm guessing you probably do.  However, if you would like to find out for sure or would like to find out how severe your case is, please complete the Hypercallumania Assessment Quiz.

Is Hypercallumania dangerous?

As long as you recognize that you have this condition and undergo proper treatment, then absolutely not!  However, there is one very dangerous strain of Hypercallumania called Histrionic Hypercallumania.  Once again, according to "Dr." Sorcha's favourite (and very outdated) dictionary, histrionic mania is defined as a "mania in which the patient assumes a dramatic manner, playing the role of the actor."  Thus, Histrionic Hypercallumania is a condition in which the patient acts as if they were an actor starring alongside CKR.  As long as the patient is merely pretending and is aware that they are pretending, then this is not so bad.  However, if this condition advances to the stage where the patient actually believes that they are CKR's co-star, then things get very scary indeed.  A person with this condition should immediately seek qualified (i.e. not from me) medical help.

Symptoms

Patients with Hypercallumania exhibit a multitude of symptoms.  For a list of some of these symptoms, please refer to the Hypercallumania Assessment Quiz.

Cure

There is no cure for Hypercallumania. We wouldn't want there to be, would we?  However, please see below for treatment possibilities.

Treatment

Hypercallumania is an incurable condition, however there are various steps that the patient can take to live more comfortably with their condition.

The patient should:

1) visit CKR-related web sites (including this one!) and watch CKR movies and TV shows regularly to avoid distressing and distracting withdrawal symptoms.

2) join at least one CKR club or mailing list if they haven't already done so.  This provides the patient with a supportive environment and allows them to make contact with others who suffer from the same condition.

Well, there you have it... all the current information on Hypercallumania.  Thank you kindly for reading! ~ "Dr." Sorcha.
