| Gypsy TRIBES is a book designed for both the student of anthropological studies and first-time reader. Its simple order, clear explanations and unpretentious style goes about untangling the confusing web of uniting and dividing traits while at the same time offering a rare yet valuable account of a place that few outsiders dare venture (its still a dangerous place).
In addition to outlining the origins and the structure of the individual tribes, each chapter, takes on a different motif surrounding the Gypsy people. For example in chapters Caldarari: The Granddaddy of Gypsy Groups and Laiesi: Screaming Gypsies, looks at the profound relationship between Gypsy and Jewish cultures Basket Makers uncovers the chaos within the colony, the layers of politics and the rivalries that form between the clans The Silk Gypsies examines the onset of prostitution in the Gypsy mahali The chapter Khashtali looks at the onset of neo-Christian groups pouring into the communities and its unifying effects amongst the lonely, non-Gypsy speaking Rudari The Scavengers analyzes the Gypsy origins to the Sudra and Dalit Indian caste system that some Gypsies are believed to have originated from while Gabori chapter connects them to the upper Kshatriyas caste, (the warrior class) Other motifs discussed within the prose include: |

- Patriarchal society and womens issues: domestic violence and forced prostitution. - Homosexuality and the community reaction. - The suicide question: the Balkan nations have some of the worlds largest suicide rates, yet suicide in the destitute Gypsy community is virtually unheard of. | Length
The book has the potential of satisfying any desired length. My initial estimates are approximately 250 pages including photographs (see illustrations below). However, a more compact version of roughly half the size can also be achieved. The decision depends on the publishers wishes and demands of the market. Completion date depends on the decided length. A shorter version can be completed in six months. A more detailed version will take a year. |

| Illustrations
A unique and valuable addition to the book are the many exclusive illustrations, graphs and maps assisting the reader in his overall understanding of the development of the tribes, tribal concentrations, varying dialects, categories of slavery and more The book will also feature a large center page photo spread of candid images of Gypsy life at some of its brightest and darkest moments. Plus a comprehensive list of all the known tribes and their definitions. The book will include Exclusive: - Clear and insightful family tree outlining the mother tribes and their offspring. - A detailed map marking the regions, towns, villages and cities revealed in the text. -Color-coded map showing the areas of accumulations of the major Balkan Gypsy tribes. -Gypsy symbols and significances used in their arts and crafts. - Since the consumer has changed and is today interested in more than just words and pictures, I propose including a CD film inserted in the back cover that demonstrates the manual tradesmen at work: Gypsy spoon-carvers, pot-makers, brick-makers, basket-weavers, and the entertainers (dance and music), etc. |
