In August 2005 I moved to Seattle from Fresno, CA to pursue my dreams of being a Doula and Midwife.
I have always been fascinated by pregnancy and the labor process. Upon learning what a Midwife is I knew it was my calling to work with women, supporting and educating them to the best of my ability. I also knew that being a midwife would require a good amount of school and experience. Being a nurse is what I initially thought I would have to do, but upon doing more research I decided that being a doula would put me in a field in which I could be independent in my practice and I would still be doing what I initially set out to do, supporting women!
Currently I am certifying through DONA to become both a Birth and Postpartum Doula. I am attending Seattle South Community College (SSCC), there I am taking prerequisite courses so that I can *hopefully* later attend Seattle Midwifery School. I am also planning to certify through PALS & NAPS our local Birth and Postpartum Doula organizations.
In a few years I will hopefully be on my way to becoming a Midwife. Someday I hope to be a Childbirth educator through Birthing from within and spend my days working with women as well as supporting and educating growing families. |
