CIVIL WAR BATTLES - Battle of Seven Pines

May 31 - June 1, 1862

Units:
Army of the Potomac - 2nd-3rd-4th Corps.

Losses:
Union - 890 killed, 3,627 wounded, 1.222 missing

Confederacy - 2,800 killed, 3,897 wounded, 1,300 missing

This battle took place in Henrico County, Va., as part of the Peninsula Campaign. It was a culmination of an offensive up the Virginia Peninsula by Maj. Gen. McClellan, in which the Army of the Potomac reached the outskirts of Richmond. Although the battle was tactically inconclusive, it was the largest battle in the Eastern Theater up to that point and would mark the end of the Union offensive. Leading to the Seven Days Battles and Union retreat.
