The Second Battle of Bull Run was the culmination of an offensive campaign waged by Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia against Maj. Gen. John Pope's Army of Virginia. The Second Battle of Bull Run was on a much larger scale than the First Battle of Bull Run. The result of this battle was an overwhelming victory for the Confederacy.

Pope's 75,000 Federals were defeated by 55,000 Confederates under Gen. Stonewall Jackson and Gen. James Longstreet. Pope was unable to escape blame for his mistakes in battle, and was relieved of command.
