Biography:
John W. Bush was born in 1848 in Marshall County, West Virginia. At the age of 16 Bush enlisted in the Civil War. He was in Company A of the 17th West Virginia volunteer infantry.
Farming had always been his chosen work in life, so after the Civil War was over, Bush went in to farming. He imersed himself in every aspect of farming, gaining invaluable knowledge. He was eventually known as an authority on agricultural topics. He was elected unanimously be his neighbors to the post of road surveyor.
In 1880, Bush married Mary C. Reynolds, of Parkersburgh, West Virginia. Together they had four children. John W. Bush died of dropsical ailments (medical term back then for the gathering of fluid in the body) October 28, 1926 near Eaton, West Virginia. He was 78 years old.
