Save the Trees

Citizens Tree Rescue Mission Statement
June 2001

Citizens Tree Rescue believes the Village of Oak Park's current tree pruning policies are detrimental to the life and splendor of our trees and to the enjoyment of our urban forest. In fact, we believe these policies are pointedly anti tree. Professional pruning standards have been established by the tree care industry specifically to protect the health of trees. Oak Park does not follow industry-approved pruning standards. Citizens Tree Rescue's mission is to get citizens involved in helping to preserve the beauty, integrity and health of our village trees. Our current campaign is focused on educating village officials and residents as to the misguided pruning practices of the Oak Park forestry department. We encourage tree-mined citizens to write to the village board and to the newspapers, talk with neighbors, and be the eyes and ears on the streets to closely monitor the forestry department. We strongly urge residents to expand their thinking beyond the tree in their own front yard and to realize the village-wide impact of a misguided pruning program.
