Like Boelcke, Voss is another legendary German Ace, claiming 48 victories in a remarkably short time. This courageous young pilot (20), was amongst the first to use the prototype Fokker Triplane, here pictured with his aircraft displaying the 'Kaiser's' face painted on the cowl, a Voss trademark.
On September 23rd 1917 Werner Voss was killed during a famous dogfight with seven British SE.5's, Voss drove two to the ground, and scored hits in each of the rest before finally being downed himself by Arthur Rhys Davids. |
