Daniel Nairn was born in Maldow, County Essex, England[1] in about 1809, his parents were Elizabeth Brown and Thomas Nairn.
In about 1832[2] he married Eliza Elizabeth Wade in Maldow, County Essex. She was born about 1809 in England[3] and was the daughter of Eliza and Daniel Wade[4].
They had seven children (the ages of their children on Eliza’s Death Certificate are inconsistent with those listed on the NSW Passenger lists):
i. SARAH NAIRN, Sarah was born about 1830[5] or 1833[6]; and married a James Dunn on the 19th June 1876 in St Paul's Church, Sydney, New South Wales[7].
ii. WALTER NAIRN, Walter was born about 1837[8] and married his wife Emma in England sometime before they migrated to Australia in 1854[9]. According to his mother’s death certificate he died sometime before 1881[10].
iii. RACHAEL NAIRN, was born in about 1838[11] or 1834[12] and according to her mother’s death certificate was known as Rachael McKay. She married a George Dunn MAcKay on 4 February 1860 in the Church of St Paul at Redfern, Sydney, New South Wales[13]. Rachael is thought to have died in New South Wales in about 1908[14]. The New South Wales Birth, Marriages and Deaths Registry records 11 children to a Rachael and George Mckay and based on the dates involved, is likely to be this couple.
George died on 22 May 1887 in New South Wales and is buried in the Rookwood Cemetery. Rachael married her second husband, James Moys McKay in about 1896[15] in New South Wales. James died on the 5th February 1947 in New South Wales[16].

v. ELLEN NAIRN, Ellen was born about 1843[19].
vi MARTHA NAIRN, Martha was born in about 1848[20]and married a James Eve on 28 August 1865 in Sydney, New South Wales[21]. She died on 5th July 1922 in Gordon, Kurringgui Shire, New South Wales[22] and is buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Rookwood, New South Wales. Martha and James had ten children; all were born in New South Wales[23].
vii. ALICE NAIRN, Alice was born about 1860[24] or 1850[25] and married an Alexander Hatley in St Paul's Church, Redfern, Sydney on 18 March 1867. Alice died on 23 May 1924[26] in Newtown, Sydney and is buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Woronora, New South Wales. Alice and Alexander had eight children born in New South Wales[27].
viii. MAJOR NAIR, Major was born about 1852[28] and married Kate Kremer in about 1882 in New South Wales..
In 1854 Walter and his wife Emma arrived in Australia aboard the Ellenborough[29] . On the 19 October 1856 Sarah and Selina departed Liverpool on the ship the Matoaka to migrate to Australia. They arrived in New South Wales on 17 January 1857.
On the 23 May 1857 Daniel, Eliza and the younger children – Ellen (13), Martha (10), Alice (8) and Major (5) departed Liverpool on the ship the Monica. They arrived in New South Wales on 18 August 1857.
Eliza died 8 July 1880 in Raglan St, Waterloo, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia[30].
In 1858 Racheal arrived in New South Wales on the ship the Herald of the Morning. In 1858, just over twelve months after arriving in Australia, Daniel Nairn died at the age of 49[31]. More than 30 years later, on 11 July 1880 Eliza died of Old Age and Exhaustion and was buried in the Rookwood Cemetery, New South Wales, Australia[32].

SELINA NAIRN was born in about 1836 in England[33], her parents were Daniel NAIRN and Eliza Elizabeth WADE.
She is thought to have travelled to Australia with her sister Sarah, on the ship “Matoaka ”[34]. The ship departed Liverpool on 19 October 1856 and arrived in New South Wales on 22 January 1857[35].
In 1860 she married HENRY WILLIAM BANCROFT in the Church of St Paul, Redfern, New South Wales[36]. Henry was the son of William Henry Bancroft who was a silk manufacturer.
They had three children:
i. WILLIAM H BANCROFT, William was born in New South Wales in about 1860[37]. He died young in about 1861[38].
ii. AGNES LOUISA BANCROFT, Agnes was born in about 1862 in Mulgoa, New South Wales[39] and married GEORGE BROXUP MEE at St Barnadbas Church, George Street, Sydney, New South Wales on 16 April 1883[40].
iii ADELAIDE H BANCROFT, Adelaide was born in New South Wales in about 1863[41] and married George Williams in Victoria in about 1888[42].
Agnes and Adelaide were recorded as still living in 1920 at the time or their mother’s death.
Unfortunately in 1863 Henry died in Penrith, New South Wales[43], after only three years of Marriage. Henry was listed as a schoolmaster on his death certificate.
Selina worked as a housekeeper, possibly for her future husband James Coomber.
On 2 July 1874 Selina married her second husband, JAMES COOMBER at Raglan St, Waterloo, Sydney, New South Wales[44]. James was the son of JOHN COOMBER and DEBORAH MORLEY and was born about 1826 in England. For more about James and Selina see descendants of James Coomber (pages34).
Selina died on the 25 August 1920 in the Public Hospital and Asylum, Newington ,Municipality of Lidcombe, Sydney, New South Wales[45]. She is buried in the Church of England Section (Section C Por 2978) of the Rookwood Cemetery, New South Wales.
