The Evil Dead legacy
The Evil Dead Trilogy is a series of movies that were written and directed by Sam Raimi. Raimi, now a big hollywood director with titles like; A Simple plan, For love of the game, and Spiderman credited to his name claims that the Evil Dead Movies were just his way of breaking into the business. He said he never knew they would draw such a cult following. He was an English Major at Michigan State University when he met Rob Tapart, a friend of his brother Ivan who was studying film. Together with Sam's Childhood friend Bruce Campbell made shortfilms. After one of their shortfilms recieved great feedback from a screening audiance, Sam decided to make a full blown motion picture. He collected a cast and crew of 13 people, including Bruce and Rob, and took off to Morristown Tennessee to film the cult classic what is known today as "The Evil Dead." It was tough to film but it was completed and recieved great reviews. Sam went on to direct and act in several B Movies, and soon decided to do a sequel to Evil Dead. Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn was filmed in the small town of Wadesboro, North Carolina. Friend Bruce Campbell returned as Ash, the hero from the first one, and Rob Tapart also returned as a producer. Sam brought his younger brother Ted Raimi along to play the roll of Henrietta, the possesed old woman ash would have to battle at the end of the film. Evil Dead 2 recieved decent review but not as good as first film. The word began to get out and Sam found himself directing films with a bigger budgets. Darkman was filmed on a 16 million dollar budget and opened at #1 its first weekend. Sam decided to film yet another sequal to the Evil Dead series. He filmed the third installment on a budget of 8 million dollars. Since he was planning on making this one a money maker he decided to name the film "Army of Darkness." Since the average person had never heard of the previous two films. It featured the return of Bruce Campbell as Ash. The film did well, but as Sam and Bruce like to put it, not well enough to justify another sequel. Although the films have come to an end, it has spawned video games, merchandise, and still has a tremendous cult following.
