| Iz is Harry's half-sister. She was born in May, 1999 in Provo, Utah. (See Iz's pedigree here.) I named her after Isadora Duncan, the dancer who scandalized Europe in the first part of the 20th century by dancing barefoot and scantily clad. Duncan pioneered the flowing forms of modern dance and Iz carries on the spirit of her namesake. Iz and I spent five years doing animal-assisted therapy with children who had been abused, had learning disabilities, and were in general not coping with life very well. They greatly needed the unconditional love that Iz provided. She won some awards for her work with her kids. Iz also plays flyball, but unlike her brother Harry, she just dabbles in the sport. She does hold the Flyball Champion title. Agility is what gets Iz most excited, and she is an outstanding example of the athleticism and focus that the smooth fox terrier breed offers. She started her agility training in 2001 and competes in AKC and USDAA. Every time I walk in the ring with her by my side, I am reminded of how proud and lucky I am to be her partner. Iz has a form of liver disease called microvascular dysplasia. She nearly died in 2003 before we were able to diagnose her condition. I manage her health solely by diet as this type of liver disease can't be corrected by surgery or drugs. If you want to learn more about Iz's diet and dog nutrition in general, please email me. |
