A Bed & Breakfast for Weary Travelers
(Friday, July 22, 2005)
I want to tell you how thankful I am for the routines that have come about since finding FlyLady ...
My husband got a phone call tonight from a customer of his (a friend too) that had just flown up here this morning from South Carolina to pick up a truck-mounted cleaning van. Don and his wife Cara left South Carolina around 4 am this morning, spent the day getting trained on how to use the cleaning machine, and then headed off from New Hampshire to drive back to South Carolina around 5 pm. Somewhere in Massachusetts, the brakes on their van went! They called my husband who arranged for a tow truck to meet him near our house and follow him to Massachusetts and tow the van back.
I asked him, "What can I do to help?"
He asked, "Can you whip together a home-cooked meal? They haven't eaten since lunch time." I had to laugh because we were having leftovers from last night because it was so hot! Sure I can do that ... I have a few things on hand ... just needed to run out for a couple of things since tomorrow was my grocery day.
About 20 minutes after he left, he called to say that he called Holiday Inn (where they have a corporate account) and they were booked solid! "I'm sorry to ask this, but can we ummm, can we accommodate them?" My immediate reaction (thanks to flylady and zone 4 this week) was "YES WE CAN!!!"
Amazingly my children were like "what can we do to help?" ARE THESE MY CHILDREN???? They vacuumed and put some dishes away, carried sheets downstairs so my husband and I could stay in our college student's room since he's home for the summer. I changed my sheets, fluffed the pillows and made the room look homey for our weary travelers. While at the store I picked up some flowers and put them on the dresser.
Don and Cara were SO thankful for a place to sleep and a cooked meal. And I am SO thankful that for once in a long time my house was not more than 15 minutes worth of messy and our family was able to bless another family!
Thank you, Marla, for all the tools you give us to bless ourselves, our families, and others!
