Reflections on the visit
Since the curtains are drawn on Saturday afternoon, we scrub ourselves in the dark, while the one who isn't in the bath looks out the window through a chink in the curtains. September 29, 1942
On August 4, 1944, the hiding place is betrayed. No one knows by whom. Everyone is taken to Westerbrook transport camp. On September 3, 1944, the whole group along with 1,011 other people was transported to Auschwitz in Poland. Hermann van Pels is gassed in Auschwitz in September or October of 1944. Fritz Pfeffer dies sick  on December 20, 1944, in Neuengame. On January 6, 1945, Edith Frank dies of disease in Auschwitz-Birkenau. Margot Frank dies of typhus and poor conditions in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen. Anne Frank dies of typhus and poor conditions in Bergen-Belsen a few days after Margot. August van Pels dies somewhere in the vicinity of Theresienstadt in April or May of 1945. Peter van Pels dies on May 5, 1945, in the infirmary at Mathausen. Otto Frank survives Auschwitz.
My visit to Anne Frank's house really gave me a greater appreciation for the families involved and all they had to do to go into hiding. I also admire all those people who risked their own lives to help the people in the Secret Annex. My own personal feeling is that we all need to take the risk in our daily lives to help others because even small acts of kindness and generosity add up.
I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people. And therefore I am so grateful to God for giving me this gift of writing, or expressing all that is in me! March 25, 1944
