FOLKLORE
Used as a medicinal plant extensively by Amerindians
who recognised four varieties that had different  odors.
Wild Bergamot was used also as an active diaphoretic
(sweat inducer) for  ceremonial sweat lodges.
A decoction of the herb was made into hair pomade.
