Once widely used in magic.
Laws were passed in the 1930's restricting it's use,
sale and cultivation and today it is commonly
substituted in spells and workings with
nutmeg, damiana, star anise and bay.

MAGICAL USES
Long used in love spells and divinations,
such as the following infamous
"Hempseed Spell"

Hemp was a part of many scrying and vision
incenses, the smoke of which opened the psychic senses.

Mugwort and hemp were prescribed to be burned
before a magic mirror to gain visions.
It was added to meditation incenses.

Sourages made of hemp were used in China
as imatation snakes, which were beaten against
beds of the sick to drive out malicious,
ill causing demons.

Marijuana, which was not made an illegal drug
until the 1930s, was at one time considered
by Witches to be a potent herb of love magick
(this may be one reason to explain
why 'love-ins' were such a popular pastime
among marijuana smoking hippies in the 1960s!)

On Midsummer
- a very magickal time of the year
for all herbs
- the seeds and leaves of the marijuana woulld
be brewed into a magickal tea potion and drunk,
not only to inspire feelings of love,
but to induce divinatory visions and dreams
regarding one's future mate.
